Macbook Pro Backlight Problem

My macbook pro just froze a few minutes ago, so i closed it over to try and wake it up as I was in the middle of something, opened it back up and everything came back for a second then the screen went black.

I restarted it and the light still wont come on. The computer is starting up ok and i can press the volume up and down etc. Anyone know any way of resolving this? I've tried putting the brightness up etc.

I'm really not arsed at all dealing with apple about this, as this is my second macbook pro due to the first one being riddled with problems. I mean, this must literally be the 20th problem I've had with one of these since I blew 2700 on one a little under 2 years ago.

So far the only solutions I can see online involve sending it to be repaired, which I don't really mind - as long as it's free. I mean if it's something stupid like 3-400 euro, I just can't afford it.

I would love someone forever if they had a solution I could do at home.

    Cheers,
    Ronan

edit: When I put the screen down it doesn't turn off. The computer stays on as though it's not recognising the screen being put down.

    A few suggestions:

Did you install any RAM recently?
Did you try booting from the install disc?
    Resetting the PRAM?

I had that problem too, is your sleep light staying brightly lit?

If so it poss the logic board, Apple replaced mine for free, think there's a known problem with them.

    Nope
    Yeah, no joy.
    And again, no joy :(

Yeah that's whats happening. It just happened out of the blue which is the most annoying part.

I guess I'll have to get onto apple in the morning and see what my options are. It's a pain in the hole being without the thing for another week or two considering I spent the best part of a year sending the old one back again and again every 2 weeks.

    Oh well.

Is there any 3rd party RAM in there? It may indeed be the logic board but bad or loose RAM can cause similar issues.

Ok, was just on to apple and they've confirmed that it's a hardware issue and I've to send it away for repair.
I've dealt with mactivate before so got on to them and it's a 15 euro fee now each way for collection/delivery.

I'm wondering if there's any place nearer to me that I could drop it into myself. I'm living in drumcondra and I don't mind getting a bus or whatever to save a few quid.
