Hey hoping to study medicine in Galway this year but haven't booked accomodation or anything yet.
Would you recommend corrib village ? Do they normally put people in the same course together ? Is there still plenty of time to book ?
    Thank you!!!!!!:D

Yeah corrib is a dump, especially if you intend on studying a bit during first year, gort or cuirt are better options if you're intent on staying in student residences. Private accomadation is a good option and a fair bit cheaper, either rent a room in a house or if you know a few people going to galway rent a house together.

Stay away from Corrib Village. It's too disruptive if you actually want to study (and in doing a medical course, you will need to do a lot of that).

As the above poster said, Cúirt or Gort na Coiribe are good bets along with private accommodation.

And student accommodation is unlikely to put you with other students from the same course just on principle, you'd have to ask for it and would probably need names. But living with people from your own course isn't the best of ideas. I lived with all medical students this year and the tension in the house was worse than any of the exams. It was so bad that I seriously considered moving out several times throughout the year and I'm honestly not sure how I survived to the end. You need to have normal people in your life too.

Corrib was class when I was there, accomodation is not great but you will have much more fun. It's about 20 students per building I knew plenty of medicine students there, and they enjoyed it, it will be quieter in other places though.

    Pros
    12 mins walk to university
Good way of meeting other first years

    Cons
Not particularly convenient for getting anywhere else in the city
    Over-priced
    No overnight visitors allowed

And, as others have mentioned, its very difficult to keep regular hours and get work done in Corrib Village; you'll find a high proportion of people there who feel that its their God-given right to have a year-long party at their parents' expense. This can be fun for a while, but gets tiresome by about week 4.

If I were you, I'd look elsewhere.

Dont think theres much chance of Cuirt (100 people on the waiting list) or Gort (400+ people on the waiting list).

Cuirt and Gort are both beside each other, they are abou a 5-10 minute walk to college

Live in corrib. Its unreal. I know plenty of med heads there who lived there and said they loved it. I regretted not living there. The library is a ten minute walk away and the reading rooms open at 7 and close at 11 so you wont be studying inbetween them hours. LIVE IN CORRIB.

Gort and Cuirt are at least a ten minute walk from college, handy for town, but hteres not a hope in hell you'll get in there now. Same goes for Corrib Id say, whether you want to or not.

I lived in corrib Village in first year. How old are you? If youre a mature student, its a no-go. Its fantastic if you dont know an awful lot of people, friends or whatever going, as people are very open to walking into each others flats and introducing themselves, you'll have countless friends by the end of the year. The librarys open from 8.30am - 10pm every night anyway.

No overnight visitors allowed, but as if anyone EVER stuck to that rule!!

    It is overpriced though.

You'll only be put in with somebody you know if you ask that you be.

Basically, Corrib's for the craic. Brilliant social scene.

If you're doing medicine you're probably not going to be much craic, so stay away from Corrib.
