I've never been on a roller but I like the sounds of it being in a pub.

I'll come last but I'd also get pi**ed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,021 ✭✭✭rflynnr

Schurely pubsh and rollersh aren't a good idea (at the schame time).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,222 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

FWIW, I voted for "Flat 25km TT" on the basis that whilst I'd rather do a 40km one, I think 25km would be more "fun" and easier to organise.

Roller racing HAS to be in a pub.

Next up should be the Boards 200 surely? Basically we try to cram as much climbing as possible into a 200km loop from Dundrum. Generally manage about 2x the Wicklow 200 ascent.

    It's not a serious runner.

Also roller racing will have to go on the long finger. I could build a machine, I just need rollers and some sort of sensor I can connect to a wheel and hook up to PLC (a sort of mini computer). Any electrical engineers wanna suggest one?? The rest is easy enough.

We can get access to roller racing gear. Karma has everything that's needed, except the software's not working.

If we can get that sorted (any electrical engineers good with that sorta thing) then we can race away

To clarify, what Karma has is sets of rollers attached to a frame with QR mountings for a front wheel to mount the bikes on. There's magnets on the rollers to pick up the speed, that is attached via a serial interface to a pc. It's all very simple, and should be bulletproof, but neither he or I are electrical engineer types!

Ah, but this would be a 200km with hills.

My other suggestion would be the "superspin" suggested last year, e.g. out and back staying over Saturday night... ~400km range.

Malin-Mizen over two days is another one Tiny is planning which I am on for.

Raid Pyrenean towards the end of the summer.

    Two minds about this.

I wouldn't mind a time trail, just to see what I am like. But 200 also sounds good.

For a TT, there are some great and very quiet roads between Saggart, Straffan and Naas.

You would need a pub that doesnt mind 30 odd people bringing their bikes indoor?

it would be nice to have a boards activity that doesn't take 17 hours for a change.

Was fun - me and irishmotorist got lost, we only want to do the short version @100k but ended up at 192k ...

Well, we did one that lasted 12 - 19 minutes depending on how fast you are :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,001 ✭✭✭scottreynolds

SWell its easy.... lets do the 200 sometime in end August start of September and one Monday night a TT -- at an already defined course like what we rode last night. We could do a 10m TT or a 25m TT... I happy to help organise.... we just need someone to keep times I guess we could do without marshalls unless we have volunteers. Standard handicapping rules should apply.

-5 mins for no sweat on the brow 1 minutes after the finish.

    -1 mins for full EURO.

    +5 Mins for Aero Bars

    +10mins for AERO Wheels.

    +15mins for White Cervelos.

+20 Mins for Black Socks or Shoes.

+1.5hrs if you've ever raced before?

I may be able to do something with this. I might PM him to see if I can get a loan of it. I wouldn't need to take anything apart.

Anyways, we can do all the challenges above. Its just with the long evenings and the relatively good weather we should get some sort of challlenge going. My last choice would have been a 40km TT but that's what the public seems to want. I hate the public. Seriously an hour+ at full bore? you people.

Jeez, in that case I'll leave mine at home.

Totally. I think that everyone should be made suffer a 40km TT. If ever there is a way to take the joy out of cycling, a TT does it.

    I don't do time trials.

I think we should do a 5-a-side bit of footie some week, all this cycling is only improving on the bike fitness, oddly enough.

    I voted for the roll-a-palooza.

For some reason I quite fancy a Viewpoint to Sally Gap TT. Maybe because it's only 14 or so kms.

Well.. now that the weather is good.. we take 3-4 mobile bbq's (you know the ones dunnes sell for a fiver - and they work fine!) we go up the mountains, we find some good grass with a view.. stay there, eat 35kgs of meat and die on the way back!

5-a-side footie on bikes, interesting concept. Sort of like bike polo but with us kicking the ball.

There's one of these next week in our club league.

I think I'm gonna give that one a miss! Wimp-list me up there.

The 10 miler we did before was enough to put me off TTs for life.

Seriously, it's worth doing. At least then you have a good reason for not doing the next one. That is, the last one was no fun :pac:

My cousins invented this in the 80s.

No no, you weirdos boardsies turn everything into a bike related affair. I was thinking we could just kick a ball, with our feet, while running.

Maybe some wednesday, I could get a cheap pitch (€25) in UCD for 10 people...I should probably leave it for a new thread.

Take your filthy talk somewhere else... poop talk

    And why no MTB option???
There is more to cycling than seeing who can pedal 100,000 times first..

I fully realise that road cycling is in the majority here but I just think it should be open to different types of cycling... This, for me, is what a perfect cycling day is like... Monday
