    2 over after 4 holes.

I know it's early days and it's a brutally difficult course, but it looks like it could be another disappointment for Padraig if he can't get back into some sort of form.

    Pity.

He hasn't been on form since he tinkered with his swing over Xmas. His own fault really, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

It wasn't exactly broke but it wasn't great, Tiger has backed him up as he did the same a few years ago, hopefully it will work out for him in the long run.

A slow start for Harrington today. I'll finish work at 6 so will be home in time to see McIlroy start, Sky should show a bit of him as he's playing with Kim too. I've backed McDowell to win at 80/1 and McIlroy to win at 45/1, long shots i know but they are both showing decent form. :)

He hasn't been on form since he tinkered with his swing over Xmas. His own fault really, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Read an interesting article with Harrington earlier this week in which he said this process of "tinkering" with his swing is something that he has always done. When he reaches a certain level he takes a step back and identifies what needs to be done to get himself to the next level. In other words he came on tour in 95/96 and missed a rake of cuts. A year or so later he realized that in order to become more consistent on tour he needed to change his swing so off to Bob Torrance he went and worked with him for 2-3 years.

By the early 2000's he was inside the World 50 and improving fast. He continued to tinker based on the changes he felt needed to be implemented in order to continue to improve.

More improvements seen as he he became one of the dominant forces in European golf and made the Ryder Cup sides of '02, '04, and '06. The "tinkering" continued.

Then he won The Open in 2007. He continued to work on swing changes, that when implemented were oftentimes not visible to ordinary fan on the sofa. In 2008 he won a further two Majors and he continues to tinker.

Anyone see the moral of the story here?

Leave him be. He'll be back to his very best sometime soon.

    Looks very wet over there.
How's that Thomas Bjorn is on the commentary on the Sky??
Di Stewart makes up for the rain:D:D

"It's still bucketing down in New York. The constant rain means grounds staff are using squeegees on the greens to clear surface water in between groups and also, at players' requests, between putts."

Play has just been stopped. They are not using preferred lies and it looks like there are going to be long delays.

Maybe not the way the scoring is going so far. Still not looking good for him very early on.

he is four over now and looks like he will be going to five over... This is a pity as these conditions suit him...pity his game is all over the place since the swing changes

Merged and moved (and messed up) a few posts and threads so this might read all mixed up but we'll keep all the US Open stuff in here now.

Jesus, just looking at some snaps of Bethpage Black from yesterday. I've seen wider fairways after the bikini waxers have been let loose (not on me of course :p)

Harrington having a nightmare... embarassing the Irish nation. At least McDowell is keeping the British hopes flying at the top of the leaderboard!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,536 ✭✭✭Dolph Starbeam

Mcdowell now 2 clear at -2, my 10 quid bet at 80/1 is looking good :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 157 ✭✭BombSquad

Brehaut, Leonard, Poulter and Gmac on top of the leaderboard. They've only played ~9 holes but strange that they're all short & straight guys as opposed to bombers... Hoch, Faldo, Mayfair and Maggert were in the top 10 last time at Bethpage also.

Obviously Tiger will still to win though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,910 ✭✭✭✭whatawaster

Are the afternoon starters going to go out first in the second round still. It would make more sense for them to play the same order so they'd get more golf today, but that might be deemed unfair i suppose.
McDowell going great. He's done this before at majors though. He featured prominently at Winged Foot, and Birkdale last year before falling away. Let's hope he can keep it up.

Anyone got a leaderboard that is actually updating cos the one at http://www.majorschampionships.com/usopen/2009/scoring/ seems to be very static...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Mountjoy Mugger

I'm using this one. Slow enough, but not half as good as the PGAtour one that has all the bells and whistles.

It's a shame they aren't doing this one as well.

That game is class. Shot level par...

... on the 8th hole. Quadruple bogied the ninth to go out in 23 over par. I did a Sandy Lyle after that and jacked it in! Class graphics though. Will have another bash later...
