You can never be too sure currently with Aer Lingus if they would even operate the route after you would have paid meaning you would have to find an alternative airline to carry you.

And as you know the later you book the more you pay.

US Airways are a good Airline. Aer Lingus are cutting back big time so you are better safe than sorry.

flew to San Fran via Philadelphia a few years ago and it was fine, only problem is you can't check your bags through so you have to collect them in Philly and recheck them both ways.

I would go with US too. If it was just €40 then I might think again but 140 is enough for a few shopping trips!

We flew with Us airways back in 2007 to orlando via philly and had no problems what so ever so much so we are using them this year again

US Airways are very good. Flew with them recently and a nice dinner on board on the way over. Plus if you are flying from Dublin on their 11.15 flight then you clear US immigration here (so you don't have any long queues when you arrive on the other side). Philadelphia airport has loads of shops and fast food places and is easy to find your way around.
The only slight downside is that they use a 757 (single aisle plane) for the transatlantic flight, and there is not much room to walk around on it. The in-flight entertainment is on TV screens hanging from the roof, rather than seat back ones.

Is it €140 per person or all together? If it is €140 altogether then I would pay that much extra to avoid the hassle of a stopover. It is a really long flight anyway and a stopover makes it that bit longer and stressful. As a previous poster mentioned, your luggage will not be checked the whole way so you will have to pick it up and drop it off again. I always find US Airways leave the connection time quite tight, so if anything goes wrong (like a blocked luggage chute - happened us in 2007) you will find you have a stressful panicked sprint to the gate!

Don't get me wrong, US Airways are fine and I have no problem flying with them, but if there isn't much of a price difference, go with the direct flight.
