3GS launches tomorrow in the U.S and UK and a few other places.

Do you think we will see a similar situation as we saw here with the 3G? i.e do you think all stock will be sold out in a couple of hours?

3gs launches tomorrow in U.S/U.K-will it sell out on day 1? 69 votes

Yes, it will, just as the 3G model did here

He means in the states. EDIT: And UK

And yes I do this they will sell out or very close to. Apparently over 200,000 prebooks have been placed.

On another note, does anyone know if you can put a deposit on a PAYG 3gs for next friday? Might not be around to get one on the day.

They will tell people that they have sold out - they want to create hype - same reason you see queues outside half empty nightclubs...

don't think they need any more hype at this stage..demand will be high, saying you have no stock when you actually do isn't a great way to increase sales I think anyway

Would be rather odd if they didn't considering it's the release date.

Called into my local o2 shop earlier today and was told that they are not sure if they would have the phone next friday and they dont have a price for it yet.

Surely they are not told to act like this. Do they treat everyone like they dont have a clue?

Conversely I went into my local O2 store and they took my name, number and iPhone request and will contact me a few days before Friday to arrange contract and I can pick phone up on 26th. Yaay!

Thats what I was hoping for but not the case for me. Im going to call into carphone warehouse tomorrow and see are they any better.

Got the impression from the fella in o2 that he didnt want to sell me the thing. I said I would call in next week to see was there any change and he said there wouldnt be and they wont know anything until next friday morning

wow, he is either clueless or d1cking you about. Can you not go to another O2 store? they will have most stock. procedure i experienced is the standard O2 procedure according to Daryll on the O2 forums

Its the only o2 store in Longford. Might head to Athlone or Dublin if im off next friday. Think I might be working though. Thats why the local one would be handy. Might call back in over the weekend and speak to another member of staff. Hopefully I will get a better response.

I have not seen it posted. I saw on a post earlier in the week that there was no date set. So I thought instead of been a no it all nob and BS about some one post. HI

I would offer information for the people who may think it is out over here tomorrow. Other people who have posted may think Ireland has it tomorrow.

Thanks for the value and the great post.

You have a lot of posts???

Do you offer information on a lot of subjects or make useless less post because I can?

O2 yesterday didn't have any info online "The internet" as it the old timers call it. The shops were not giving any info so I posted it out next week over here. I have seen some people are going looking for it tomorrow. So there is more than myself that had no release date on the Iphone.:D

    Another great post. Great value!!!

On post 60 it does not say who the carrier is. So HA. O2 yesterday on "the internet" didnt have a date for the Iphone 3gs. Vodafone could have been the carrier. I posted the carrier was O2. Next time I will put breaking news as the title. Make it easier for some.:P

wrong. they did. and before that they had 'coming soon' which would indicate that they (o2) would be the carrier:cool:

Wrong??? How?? What? The post i was directed to did not say a carrier or even indicate a carrier. The pic did have Ireland in the pic but no carrier. I didn't see any where 02 were going to be the carrier. We all knew 02 were going to be but 02 never said it to me when I asked, and on the web site it didn't say the 3gs was coming to 02.

    So where am i wrong???

If I am wrong prove it. Above are the facts.

"Coming soon" means nothing. The end of the world is "coming soon" that does not indicate it is coming to 02. LOL

Look do me a favour and drop it, will you?

Any man in the street knew the phone was coming to O2.

Now lets leave it at that and get back on topic.

True we all knew it was coming to O2, but not every one knew when. That was the point of my first post you jumped all over posts and be smart (see your 11). There are post on this tread of prople who thought the 3gs ws coming out today. So I guess not every one knows. Just because some people know does not mean every one knows. I feel the boards are to give information. Like yesterday when I posted the release date of the iphone in Ireland as I say it on the 02 site for the first time. It was not on the site to days ago.

We should all think out side out heads and help everyone.

You asked me to drop it. Then offered a point of view, So any man on the street would feel you are giving me the right to reply.

I gave info on the release date of the 3gs and hoped it old help some one out and I hope it did.

According to the Telegraph in the UK, they reckon there will be a lukewarm reception to the iPhone, partly due to the cost of getting out of current iPhone contracts and partly due to the fact that the new phone offers nothing really ground breaking.

It will be interesting today to see if there are any reports of iPhone hysteria.

I'm not sure I get the whole "queuing up" for it, I mean am I missing something or what?

Surely if it's sold out on Friday (unlikely?), shops will have fresh stock within the following day or two?!

well that wasnt the case with the 3g last year..it sold out in hours and it took weeks and weeks for new stock to arrive back in..

After my bad experience in o2 yesterday I went back today to see did I get any different answers.

Today was alot better. Took my name and number and reserved a 16gb white PAYG to be collected friday morning:)

    The countdown is on.

I have pre booked. But i wont be able to get to the 02 store till 5;30 on release day. Im now waiting on a phonecall.

What was the story last year, Did they run out of them in Ireland? What are my chances of getting one?

The way I took it was because I had pre booked one they would hold it until I collected it on friday. They said nothing about having to come early on friday morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭Eire Go Brach

Yes I'm aware of that. I suppose it just matters where I am on the list. The girl said there are a good few on it. She did not know how much stock they were getting. Hence the phone call i suppose.

Think Im just a tad nervous:) Have not been this excited since the 360 came out. That i took the day off for.

    Thanks

i am keeping everything crossed there won't be hysteria because i am away next week and i am going to try to order online when i am abroad to get my first ever iPhone! i am an ungrateful sod - wishing i wasn't going on holidays so i could queue up for an iphone hehe:p

IT looks like ordering online is the best option. I checked with the O2 shops in Galway and despite what Daryll says on the O2 forum its not first come first served - thay all have long lists of people who have prebooked. I was told that they are only expecting 5 or 6 handsets to be available in each store and are not sure when they will have stock available for people not on the list!!

So whats the deal with the new iphone 3g in o2 stores .IS the 420 the new price or has the price still to drop with the new 3gs being released ? And can i get a brand new one unlocked anywhere for cheaper than 02's price?
    Thanks in advance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 201 ✭✭Mcloke

Hmmm we are numbers 6 and 7 on our local o2 list...Daryll have you any idea on what numbers of stock shops can expect on Friday...especially those outside the centre of the universe (Dublin)!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cojomo2

Any1 know if the 3gs is still available 2 purchase in the uk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cojomo2

    for any1 that's interested,

iPhone 3gs 16gb white is now sold out in the uk, however the black 16 and 32 gb and the white 32gb versions are all still available to order online, over the phone, or to pick up in store.

So overall, no stock issues really, and they say the white 16gb will be back in stock later this week... so if that's anything to go by..absolutely no need to be queuing outside o2 retails stores on Friday..

    link below

I just rang the O2 shop that's halfway up Henry Street (yes, they actually answered the phone ) and asked if I could pre-book or pre-order, and was given a very definitive NO. He also advised that I should "turn up on Friday and see what we have left".

This doesn’t seem to accord with what some of you have experienced……so I'm confused.

Can you pre-order at the O2 shops or have I missed the boat?

Also, where can you buy them online?? I havent been able to find anywhere to do so

(I'm just looking for the run of the mill 16 gig black version)

I was told the opposite in Galway. Checked with all of the O2 shops here and they all said that if you're not on the list there's no point in showing up on Friday at the shop!
It's not first come first served in all of the O2 outlets.
Some earlier posts mention O2 shops in Dublin which have pre-booking lists so check those out or ring around a bit.
You can order online on Friday 26th

White one seems to be gone on PAYG on the o2 site.

Wonder are they all booked up already?
