Help me choose a laptop!!!

Laptop noob here, need a bit of advice. My Toshiba Equiem which I bought in January 2008 has just blown its motherboard so i'm on the market for a new laptop.

I have a budget of up to €900 max, but don't have a clue what to go for. After my experience with Toshiba, i'm slightly put off the likes of Acer, Sasmung, compaq etc. and want somthing that is going to still work three years down the road.

For this reason i'm tempted towards the new macbook pro. I've heard they're reliable and also like the features ilife 09 offers (garageband etc.). On the other hand, i've seem some better-specced Dells and HP laptops in PC world going cheaper than the mac book, so i'm confused as what to go for.

Can someone reccomend a laptop that will suit the following tasks.

    -Watching videos
    -Recording music
    -Typing Word Docs
    -Listening to Itunes
    -Downloading music (legally of course)
    -Playing Sims 3

    Any tips greatly appreciated :pac:
