As the title suggests, I am looking to buy a Sat4free box in the Cork City area.
If this is not possible then where is the best place online. I know that powercity.ie sells them but I dont know if they will deliver all the way to Cork.

PS: Is there any disadvantage in buying a UK Freesat box and using it in Ireland.

I'd say you're better off getting a Freesat one. The independants sell some of them locally (satellite.ie , freesat.ie - check out a few of them). richersounds had a good deal on the PVR - delivery nationwide.

Thanks, I might give my local Tesco a visit tomorow, there selling the sat4free box right?

Does anyone know if PowerCity will deliver to Cork.
I'm interested in this one: http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-23-989289

Does anyone have one already, if so how good is it (Setup, EPG, ect;)

Powercity don't list Cork in the delivery drop down.

Personally I'd go with the Humax
    http://www.richersounds.ie/asp/product.asp?ObjectID=938&Mode=0&CategoryID=6&SUB=101&ProductID=839

or the PVR version - if you want to record easily.

The power city price is quite good - but the Humax is not much more for a better box imho.

The only difference sat4free vs freesat is ur stuck with an NI postcode with sat4free - personally I prefer BBC / ITV London. p.s. you can still get London on sat4Free - it's just on a different channel number.

Callaghan's TV on Plunkett St have the Sat4Free SD receivers along with LNB, dish and fittings for €150 - installation is extra. The are selling the HD equivalent for €299.

Hi Apogee, do you know what the price of the HD one is without the dish and lnb as I plan on using the SKY dish already installed.
    Thanks for the advice.

    I don't. You could try ringing them - 021 427 3433.

I reckon you would still work out cheaper going by mail order to be honest.

Thanks again Apogee, I think I'll go with the Humax FoxSat HD, the one Martin_F mentioned. After all I dont really need a PVR as I already have SKY+ in the living room.

Thanks for the help guys, any other suggertions would be nice as I wont get any free time for a good look around untill the weekend.

On another note can anyone suggest cable's for the Freesat box. I'll already have a HDMI for the tv connection and an optical TOSlink for connection to the amp, so I'm looking for cable to go from the box to the satelite.
    Thanks again.

From the bit of internet research I've done, is it true that the Humax FoxSat HD comes with its own HDMI cable included in the box.

Note: Sorry if the thread has gone a bit off topic.

Yes it does - the PVR version certainly has one in the box. In any case they are not expensive - less than a tenner for a 1.5m or 2m version.

Yes - both the original Humax and the PVR came with HDMI cables. approx 1.5 m I guess.

btw - since it's for a 2nd tv and you don't need recording (I think you said that) - did you consider a combo box SAT/DTT. Unless of course the tv has built in DTT. I think the prices are slightly higher - and the EPG's may not be as good - but worth at least considering before you jump in.

Will I be able to get RTE1,RTE2,TV3,TG4 with the SAT-DTT combo box, bearing in mind that I dont have an aerial any more and the signal was nerver great where I live.

Can you suggest one, between 50 and 150 euro?

I know there are a few boxes around - but I think the price point is closer to just over 200. I just thought I'd mention it in case you hadn't considered them. I can't recommend one since I don't have one.

You would need an aerial of some sort... can't comment on reception.

If you wanted a box closer to the 50 mark - ur only going to get SD - one of the previous posts mentioned a sat4free box in Tesco for 79 probably SD. I'm not sure if you can get the SD boxes (except sat4free) at the moment.

These are the Freesat SD boxes (basically the same as sat4free versions)

    http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/Freesat_receiver_box.html
(out of stock - i think tony does 10% off for boardies)

    http://www.freesat.ie/index.php?cat=Freesat_SD_receivers_

SD vs HD is down to personal choice - size of TV / if you want BBC HD & ITV HD... vs the extra few quid...

    Thanks anyway Martin F,
I think I'll just stick to my original choice (Humax FoxSat HD).

Lets hope RTE Diaspora (International) goes public soon :D
