Alot of people are in the same boat as you at the minute.

Personally, I wouldn't go off to the US just to work for a summer. The wages will only help you survive while you're there, and when you come home the situation will be the same if not worse for you.

Ride it out, keep looking for work and go into FAS every week. There is work to be had, you just have to apply yourself even more to finding it

I would say come to New York for the summer. If nothing else, it might be helpful to get out of your current situaion and get a perspective on it. New York has been hit by the recession, but not as badly as Ireland, and it's far less depressing place to be right now.

Things might be better when you get back, and surely it's better to work than let your skills go slack. And it's only for the summer, not for the year - your boyfriend and life will still be there when you get back.
