a mate of mine rang me yesterday evening looking for help with his daughters homework. it was a simple maths equation but neither of us could work it out. it took me about 5 mins to get it but then he asked me another one that took another few mins.
i was just looking at the drawing i made of it and cant believe it took me so long to work it out, it was homework for an 8 year old in first class:eek:

    im going back to school

There was a very similar question to this on my Leaving Cert Ordinary Maths paper 1 two weeks ago actually.

Everybody's perception of the hill is different. it gets bigger as you get older. Your hill is probably mount Kilimanjaro, mine is more the Sugar Loaf

    Leaving Cert Foundation Maths:

    How much is:
    (a) 1 sandwich @ €1.79 each

I'd say it tricked a few. I don't suppose workings had to be shown

There is a Maths forum for these types of extremely difficult questions, ya know.

Guys over there have degrees and post grads and PhDs and would be able to come up with a solution in a few short weeks. :)

Nope. Workings do not have to be shown for foundation level papers. I kid you not.

I am sorry, it just can't be true.

There's no way the foundation sums could be done without at least a foolscap A4 page of workings.

Maybe you had to draw a diagram of you purchasing the sandwich and eating it. Then leave a few crumbs in with the paper for proof.

Or possibly a graph of time taken to eat sandwich (T) against amount of sandwich eaten (S).

    That'd confuse them :p
