Defining the tackle

Had a discussion last night with a mate in relation to the tackle in GAA.. LIke everyone else, seen different referees interpret what rule there is quite differently with regards to what they let go/call up.

Question I have is if anyone knows what the definition of a tackle in GAA is.. Asked a few people and I got varying references to third-man tackling, near-hand tackling, far-hand tackling etc...

Interested to see how any of the experts would define the tackle.. Had a look in a small rule-book the club have and it seems incredibly vague in there also!

    Edit: Rules are here.. http://gamesdevelopment.gaa.ie/auth/main/sb/preview/stage/files/gamesdev/playing_rules_of_football.pdf

Essentially the only tackle allowed in GAA is the shoulder.

This I believe is defined in the rule book as a side-to-side charge. ie. if you charge and make contact with another player anywhere other than their side (usually shoulder) it's a foul.

You can also knock the ball out of an opponents hands but only using an open hand, if you attempt this by using a closed fist then it's a foul.
