Virus, now back-up

    Hi all,

I have a virus on my laptop. When I turn my laptop on, a PC voice says something like 'System Error', then an application starts that looks like it is scanning for and finding viruses. The application looks ameteurish so I presume it is part of the virus.

I presume I am going to have to reformat the laptop. But first, I want to back up my data to my external hard drive.

Do any of you know if this possible? If so, how?

    Thanks,
    Jeff
