Noise pollution?

Are dogs barking at night considered noise pollution? And I'm not talking about the odd dog yapping every couple of hours. I'm talking about a big dog barking CONSTANTLY throughout the night! I really don't know how he does it. It's been going on years but lately seems to be getting worse. I can hear it clearly from across the road, even though I've double glazing on my window. I can't even open my window on the really warm nights because the noise would be even louder. It's really affecting my sleep and I find myself lying awake daydreaming of ways to kill the dog...sneaking across and throwing a poison sausage is my best plan so far. Every time I see the dog during the day I'm so tempted to run it over!

The owners are a grown up woman who lives with her old mother and they're kind of weird, so going over to talk to them is out of the question. They are pretty reclusive, the dog is tied up at night and left outside but during the day it's left to its own devices and has attacked many other dogs while they've been out walking with their owners. When people try and go and talk to them about it, they just pull down the curtains and pretend they're not there.

I've always considered contacting the police about it but thought it was a bit OTT, but it's gotten so bad that I have to do something!

I'd talk to them first tbh, even if they are 'weird'

You could contact a dog warden but the Gardai are unlikely to do anything unless there's been numerous complaints.

Talk to them and tell them that the onus is on them to sort it out. Or else you'll be forced to escalate it to a warden/gardai

Your Meath county council deals with it.
Here's a link specifically on barking dogs.

    Barking Dogs

Excessive dog barking that causes a nuisance is an offence. Your District Court can make an order requiring the reduction of excessive barking by a dog, can limit the number of dogs that can be kept on a premises or can direct that a dog be delivered to a dog warden as an unwanted dog.
You can make a complaint about excessive barking to the District Court under Noise Regulations. Before you do this, you must first inform the dog owner of your intention by completing a special form under the Control of Dogs Act, 1986. These forms are available from your local authority.

I found myself walking around Ballinteer at 5am to pin point where the noisy B****** dog is... for the past 3 nights he has been barking his head off all night, I think it is to do with foxes in the area, I am going to knock into the house tonight when I am finished work... I feel your pain, I was up last night & I considered the poison sausage thing too although on a bigger scale, I was going to commit genocide on the foxes & the dog with a bag of poison sausage meat, trouble is an innocent animal could take the bate and end up dying... so I think I will tackle the dog issue first by calling into the owner and asking them nicely... Anyone know how to get rid of a den of foxes? My friend suggested laying a few rat traps... this is top of my list, but I am open to more humane suggestions!
