Hey all, I was thinking of getting a scar and was looking at this http://www.wgcshop.com/ Just wondering does anyone know what Ares are like as a brand, reliability, quality, etc or if anyone has any personal experience that would be great.

Also has anyone used WGC shop before and what was their experience, do they do downgrades and what was shipping cost and time like?

    Thanks

ares where the oem company for star, i have or have had a lot of star gear and have had very few problem, this is my own personal experience as i know others have had some bad experiences with them manly they use a lot of unique parts which in the past where hard to get hold of, since ares have gone into retail themselves this has changed as they know provide spares direct or have released parts for general sale

the scar is a solid bit of kit it did/has a problem with the lover receiver in that the magwell had a lot of flex, the last one we had thought the shop this problem seemed to have resolved itself, this could have been random or ares finally got round to fixing it :)

wgc are good with downgrades just email them after you have your quote with your order number and they will sort you out

Ares is STAR, they're supposed to be a great brand, I've never used any of their stuff though, although I did drool all over the L86 A2 Light Support Weapon they produce when I was in Wolf Armouries once, good job they don't operate a you drool on it you buy it policy.

I've always gotten a good service from WGC, their shipping is fast, they do downgrades as far as I can remember and they're all round pretty decent to deal with. They can be a lot more expensive than some of the other retailers, even on the same products, but you can't fault them on their selection.

Much less hassle getting a SCAR from one of the Irish Retailers.

STAR / ARES, The Quality of the externals I've seen on any of their
    stuff is fantastic.

I dont know about the internals, I've only 2 Star Products (Now called ARES?)
and one is Gas Powered, the other is an AEG with a dodgy trigger microswitch.

star brought oem from ares, so they are 2 different company's, ares decided to sell direct instead of going thought star, which is good for use considering we have seen a massive decrease in price for a lot of there products :)

I ordered a star M4 from WGC months ago they said they would downgrade it and they didnt :mad:, I was lucky it was not sent for testing in customs. I have since downgraded it myself, It will be a cold day in hell before I do business with them again.

Overall the uality is great. the finish is equally as good.

i had a serious problem with mine though, the front end of the gearbox sheared after very little use. the gearbox itself is unique to ares/star so parts are very difficult. i have been in contact with both star and ares and they haven't been very helpful.,

if you carry on not having any luck drop me a pm we might even have one in stock, but i know 100% we can get the light version gearbox shell if you need one

    Thanks all, damn quick response:)

Dont think any irish retailers do the VFC version. What about the G&G one, anyone used that?

Oh yea, and does anywhere sell the EGLM all by itself?

i have the g&g scar...great piece of kit.

talk to masada on the eglm, i think he tried it on a few aegs, the only place that was selling them that i know of was gunnerairsoft, but last i checked they were out of stock.

Eirsoft used to stock the VFC SCARs, got one there myself but they are hard to get sourced into the EU lately for some reason by retailers, same with the VFC 416s. The last of the batch was sold off early this year.

I'd go for the G&G one if you can't get the VFC one.

I think you can buy the eglm stand alone unit on ehobby, and a few other sites. you need to change the trigger system though to mount it on the Scar, theres trigger systems availible for them in 5.56, 7.62 and stand alone form. :)

    Puding, thanks man,
If only i had of known that months ago, ive fabricated my own one and everything.,lol
it still be interested in it though. Eould love a new complete gearbox since i had to modify a few of the parts to suit the new shell i made, but would be happy enough with a shell. :) will drop ya a PM.

Thanks everyone (again). Think I'm gonna try and get the VFC version. So these are my final quick question. Any Irish retailer sell them at the mo and if not then should I get it from WGC, Redwolf or other?

I think the shipping will be expensive on them from HK as the VFC SCARs come in big hard plastic carry cases that have enough room for a SCAR and EGLM. I'd look into getting a shipping cost quote so you don't get a shock.

You could have tried fire-support.co.uk but they are all out of VFC SCARs, even though its more expensive in £s for some reason you would have saved in VAT, shipping and ''handling charges''.

you'll do well to find a VFC in stock anywhere, they can be a bit like gold dust at times.
I personally would go with the Star or G&G. the internals are a little better.,

Well I am looking for reliability above all things. Know if theres any G&G ones in stock in Eirsoft?

I have the G&G scar, and its a lovely piece of kit. It doesn't have FN trades or the takedown of the VFC, but it can take a 9.6 and the stock can still be fully retracted. Battery fitting isn't as fiddly either (from what I gather thats the main bad point on the VFC, that and the motor on VFC is unreliable). The G&G internals are top quality too. Either will be a good AEG, but the G&G is easier to get.

I have the VFC ScarL and I cannot recommend it enough.

I have it since December and it is my go-to gun. I have been using it regularly since then and it has not let me down.

Runs very well with a 9.6V. Plenty of room in the case for a scope/sight, vertical grip etc.
