    Hey Guys,

A few days ago I lost my reception of TV3/TG4 altogether and cannot find a solution for it. I have fine reception of RTE1/2. Our aerial is in our attic and I have fiddled with it but get absolutely no reception for TV3/TG4, Could it be a problem with a local transmitter ? I live in Nenagh, don't know my local transmitter but hopefully you can point out if there are any problems around my area.

Any other feedback would be great.

    Barry.

    Bump.

Have you tried a different TV or tuning via VHS tuner?
I presume you are on Maghera (but I could be wrong) which uses VHF for RTE1 and RTE2 and UHF for TV3 and TG4. It's possible to lose just one band on a tuner.

Thanks watty, No I haven't tried a different TV, I'll do that now.. I suppose it could be the TV. Is it possible that the aerial is broken ? Even though its just a jumble of metal piping :p

Well you've done it Watty, Tested a different TV and it picked up TV3/TG4. Would you know if the tuner thing is repairable ? Its a good excuse for getting a new HDTV :p

One more question, Do you know why it always seems that its much easier to pick up RTE1/2 than TV3/TG4 in general ? Never really get a 100% clear picture with them. Seems to be common

Edit: One more thing, This is a little OT though, Our aerial looks strange..... from all the aerials I have seen on the net, I couldnt find any that look like ours  Maybe someone could tell me what the hell design our aerial is then :) I decided to take a picture of it when I was up in the attic.

That looks like a VHF Band 111 aerial to me. If you are receiving from Maghera then this is the correct aerial for RTE1 and 2. For the best reception of TV3 and TG4 you need a UHF Band C/D aerial.

Maybe someone else will be more helpful on the purchase of a UHF aerial with Terrestrial DTT not far away, one hopes! I do not know what group you will need but you will no longer require the VHF aerial.

Edit: I wouldn't throw away the VHF aerial. DAB radio enthusiasts may have uses for it?
