Gonna be down in Cork City this weekend on a stag weekend. Wanted to go out and do my penance for an hour on Saturday morning. Anyone know any city centre park that I could go for a run in rather than running around the streets?

There's Fitzgerald's Park across the way from UCC.

Not quite the city centre, but the Lee fields will more than suffice your needs.
For an out-of-towner, the Lee fields is out the Killarney Rd. just past the county hall.

    Hi,
I would recommend the Lee fields to the west of the city. It's a nice park beside the river. There is also a path between the Carrigrohane road and the model farm road:

Alternatively, to the east of the city there is an old railway line and a foot path by Lough Mahon that make a scenic route with lots of walkers and runners:

You could make a route out of Fitzgeralds park, the path behind the Mardyke Arena, the path beside the river in UCC, and the path on the North bank of the river starting at North Mall:

+1 on the railway line. Its a great route, and you can make it as long, or short as you like.
I think the loop from pairc Ui Caoimh down railway line over tunnel , into blackrock village and back up Marina is about 6 miles. The centre park road (access to the start of the railway line) is well over a mile long.
If you are city centre (partick st or similar) then down Centre park road, the loop around the line, tunnel etc will be about 10 miles.
Where you are staying? Will be able to give better instruction then

Fitzgeralds park is Waayyyyy too small for a run.

Yeah was just looking at it now. Seemed a lot bigger last time I was there (when I was about 10). Could start there and run along the Lee Fields though.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Staying in The Clarion if that's any help. It's on Lapp's Quay. By the sound of things I could run out to Lee Fields from there?

If you are at the clarion, then you are only 300/400m from the start of the Centre Park Road.
    I would recommend that route.
The lee fields are at the other side of the city and its probably a 2 mile trout out to them

From that side of the city it would be better to go east, out Centre Park Road, along the railway line and Lough Mahon. Otherwise you will have to run through the city centre. Although Cork's quite small so it's not really a big deal :pac:

From the Clarion down centre park road or monaghan road (they both take you to Pairc Ui Caoimh) and then the loop down of the railway line, around by Mahon amenity walk, back to black rock castle and up the marina. - no cars, great views, flat, nice sounds of nature - the perfect antidote to a heavy sauce session!
