Away Records

Played in an open last week and racked up a decent score 6 better than standard scratch and assumed i would be cut. Looked up golfnet today and it is in the away records section with no cut or change to my handicap. Gutted not to be cut as it would have brought me right close to single figures.
I played the weekend on the assumption that i cut myself anyway but am not sure now. Will it change on golfnet in a while or should i play off my unchanged handicap.

Dunno Jimmy, you should defo have been cut, and you were right to cut yourself.
I'd have thought that golfnet would have cut you on the web, after all that's what it's there for.
Maybe they were waiting for your club to do it or something?
    Strange..

Sorry I know what post was of no help whatsoever, ah well:rolleyes:

golfnet has not changed my h'cap for last 2 week ends sometimes this happens
i presume its down to the handicap sec. having to catch up on his work for whatever reason and when it happens the odd time it seems to right itself
as far as i know at the end of the day you are responsible for your own h'cap so
1 you were dead right to cut yourself imo
2 you should have a sheet in your club that you can fill in yourself with away scores
3 you should inform your club handicap sec and he will probably get you sorted

not 100% on the above but might help

Is the whole point of swipe cards and golfnet and all that malarky not to make the whole handicap system easier?

I know i've got at least one 0.1 coming back but the score (almost 3 weeks later) still hasn't shown up on Golfnet. Pretty ****ty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭jimmystars

Cheers for the input. Will continue to play off the lower handicap until i have a word with handicap sec in my home club.

What's the state of play going the other way? You know you've 0.1s coming back, but they've not shown up on Golfnet yet. If they're enough to take you from say 4.4 to 4.5, do you play off 5 in your next comp or stick at 4?

Im assuming you treat it the exact same and put yourself back on 5, dont see why it would be any different

I have the same problem. I broke CSS by 5 last Friday. Logged into the away club terminal and entered score. That was Fri 12th. My handicap was last updated on Sunday 14th with no change to my h/c. I am taking it as a 1 shot reduction. I called the GUI and asked why it was not up on Golfnet as having changed and was told it is up to the h/c secretary in my club to update it.

I have had that issue recently where I had away records seemingly stuck in limbo. I still have a .1 stuck from last October but that's for another day.
I was 4.4 on golfnet and 4.5 on howdidido
I called the GUI Leinster branch about it and she told me that the the 4.5 was my proper handicap as it was administered by the club... they just hadn't uploaded/downloaded/synchronised (?) the system with golfnet.
So at my club I was listed at 5 but signing in to an away event I was listed at 4 and I corrected it to 5.

A .1 from the senior scratch in Kilkenny took maybe 3 weeks to get credited to my account (nice way of looking at it). I have one from 03/June/2009 still in limbo currently.

So, when going up in handicap, I would work off what your club says you are (howdidido)... i.e. they have adjusted your handicap upwards.
When you feel you should be cut lower, you are obliged to cut yourself to this lower handicap (I've no experience of an away cut yet though).
Golfnet seems then to be more of a recording thing then than something you'd have to assume as absolutely the case.

The handicap sec in your club has to import away scores on to the handicap system in your club first. The score is then uploaded on to Golfnet by GUI. Sometimes there is a delay in doing this.

Once you beat sss YOU have to cut yourself and play off the lower handicap no exceptions. Your handicap Sec. will adjust you official hc when we receives the card.

Of course that's true. I'm only explaning why the score may not be adjusted on the players home club records. These days since most clubs have a computerised handicapping system so most scores are returned automatically so you don't need the card to adjust the handicap.

No, you must cut yourself but you can't increase yourself. A handicap increase has to be recorded either on your club notice board or online. I actually thought Golfnet would be the only only reference but it seems from Licksy's post the GUI also recognise Howdidido.

came in to post what shamco already said, your score will stay as an away score until your handicap sec imports it into your member's handicap section. Any handicap alterations would be done then, also, would it be possible that the competition you played in was non counting for any reason and that there was no cuts for the competition.

So as not to start another thread, i've a slight problem with my current h'cap. Played in the Kilkenny senior scratch and had a bit of a nightmare on one hole so clause 19.8 comes into effect. However on my golfnet it is showing the 19.8 as a +1 rather than a -1. Golfnet is now showing the following numbers:

    CSS: 72
    GS 75
    19.8 1
    AG 76
    GD 4
    ND 1
    HA 0.0

Contacted my h'cap secretary and contacted GUI and neither have been too helpful, but i think i'm finally getting it sorted. anyone had a similar problem or am i missing something myself?

My understanding is your record should read
    CSS 72
    GS 75
    19.8 1
    AG 74
    GD 2

Not sure of your handicap so can't do ND

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 391 ✭✭Paulusmaximus

Shamco, thats how i read it as well. h'cap is 3 so that would result in ND being -1 and a cut of -.1. I know its only small but my handicap now is 2.2 or 2.3 depending and that .1 could make the difference between qualifying for the north or south championships or other senior scratch cups...

I have a couple of 19.8's on golfnet over the past few years. Sometimes they are listed as a positive number and sometimes as a negative ( 2 or sometimes -2 ). Either way, the AG is always less than the GS.
Ask your secretary to do a -0.1 correction which should be simple enough I'd imagine rather that going through too many other contacts. Especially when you are looking to qualify and also it gets messy when the .1 becomes the difference of a full shot or not.

Just a quick update. Played today at my home club and the handicap was updated on the system but not yet on golfnet or on how did i do. The away club must have checked my details and informed someone.I guess it will change eventually on golfnet now.

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

howdidido seems to be having an issue at the moment of not being up to date. My weekend competition wasn't published there anyway and I see on the forum that someone else is giving out that their competition results haven't appeared either... My competition results are printed out on the notice-board and my handicap is correct on the club system but it's different online.

Okay, I've been trying to figure out what I am going to get cut after an away competition on Monday. It's my first cut so not really sure of how it works.

My current handicap is 21.6. On GolfNet it states that the Nett Differential for the comp was -7. I think, from what I've read, that this means 7 * .4 = 2.8. So new handicap will be 18.8. Is this correct?

Secondly, my handicap has not been updated on GolfNet, that's how I came across this thread. I'm guessing I should, from now on, play off 19. Do I need to contact the handicap secretary at my club and ask him about it, or do I just put down 19 the next time I'm playing a comp etc?

    Thanks for the advice.

    Thanks for the advice.

If You swiped your card it should come back automatically. If not there's usually an away course report form on the notice board where you can enter scores
    Your cut is as follows 0.4 * 6 (Cat 4 player 21-28) +
    0.3 *1 (Cat 3 13-20)
    =19.9
Play off 20 next time you play

I did swipe, and entered my scorecard electronically. When you say come back automatically, what do you mean?

Ah, I see. But you have the figures slightly wrong. I'm off 21.6, so it's 18.9 rather than 19.9.
    Thanks for the help.

sorry my maths all over the place

    21.6

    first cut 3 *0.4
    and the second
    cut 4*0.3

    Handicap 19.2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,053 ✭✭✭jimbling

it came through over the weekend... and I am indeed cut to 19.2.

So I played on an away course last Friday. The score is sitting in my "away records" since Monday. Is that a holding area until the club sec in my home club runs his updates?

    Any one know the process?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,950 ✭✭✭Barnaboy

That's it exactly. It might take a few days to process. Don't forget your handicap secretary is a volunteer, so he's not going to be able to make these amendments immediately!

Cheers for that. It's been a week now and it's still there. Is it normal for clubs to wait for the physical card or is 100% of a club's process done through golfnet.
