At present I have read about golf courses struggling to make ends meet as memberships fall.

This has led me to believe that one could chase a good bargin on a golf course by getting a few bob knocked off some of these elaborate green fee's , oh hell no!

What is a tenner to a big golf club on a quiet Monday?

Or am I just being cheap?

Where have you tried? Most of the courses that are struggling have already adjusted their greenfees to offer good value. Those that aren't struggling (ie big private member's clubs) don't need to really.

    Am I allowed to say?

Well yes as long as it isn't libellious I don't see any harm in naming clubs and their associated greenfees.

Well tbh, I'm dissapointed in Concra wood, we were planning on bringing an 8 ball up there on a dead monday and the staff there would not budge on the green fee prices!

Now I know it's not that expensive but I just thought we would get some deal.

    They would not budge.

Ok rant over, I was a tad annoyed.

I firmly believe that you can negotiate with most courses, but if you try and they say no, then they have picked a figure they can't afford to go below.

€50 (I'm assuming that's what you were quoted) to play Concra Wood is very good value for a course that's in such good condition and has yet to be recognised for being as good as it is.

Not sure where you're based, Ichiro, but there are plenty of good courses you could try that are within an hour to an hour and a half of Dublin. Most will cost you in the 40 to 50 euro price bracket, but there are some beauties for less: €30 at Rathcore (or €20 before 12pm) in Co Meath, or €35 at Portarlington, or why not head the other way and go to Macreddin in Co. Wicklow.
