    Hi,

So 2 days ago I got my results from my first year college course exams. As I knew I would I failed terribly. The thing is I hate the course, its not for me, but I'm in a terrible position.

What do I say to the parents? Especially my mum, who I feel the pressure is always on her shoulders whenever I fail to achieve. See I'm a constant underperformer, I only got into the course(which for all intents and purposes is a pretty good one) by doing another course which I just scraped enough distinctions to get into the course I was doing during the year.

Where do I go from here? Seriously, you're advice is absolutely crucial as I have nobody else I can talk to about this.

    Thanks,

You can repeat your exams in august/september. All is still possible.

    Course and college?

PM me if you need any help studying.

I've been in similar situations. Trust me, you're not ready for college if you're feeling this way. Take a break. Work for a while. You'll eventually find something you really want to do. Don't waste 3/4 years on something you aren't committed to.

My dad's advice would be to do an arts course, it'll open your mind to other posibilities etc. Dunno if that's for everyone though.

Sit repeats if you want but only do it if you're really gonna commit to this. Otherwise you're kidding yourself and your mother.

Just explain your feelings to her, she'll understand. She's your mother and will want what's best for you. Even if she's angry or upset, it'll pass. Remember, this is your life, no one else's.

Don't get shamed into doing something that isn't for you. We don't all find the perfect course right away. It takes time. I worried so much about this stuff. Then I stopped worrying and I found my way through. It's not a race. Just take your time.

I made the mistake of pressing on with something I hated and just never loved it or cared about it.

Find something you want to do.

I feel compelled to reply here as I usually don't. Tell your Mam how you feel. She will not be as disappointed as you think she will be. My brother stayed in a course he hated for 4 years, constantly repeating and failing which ended up in him dropping out before he got any qualification and the only thing my mother was annoyed about was the fact that he did'nt tell her sooner and wasted his time and their money. Drop out, honestly-if its not for you. Theres no shame in it, the only person you're fooling is yourself if you don't tell your parents that the course isn't for you. figure out what you want to do and don't rush into anything.

It'll be ok, worse things could happen! don't peg yourself as an 'underperformer'- you haven't found your niche yet, thats all!

These things happen, I did the same. If your not happy your not happy, your not stuck.

Are there not repeats in the autumn? In the college I was in it was possible to move to year 2 of a different course if you passed year 1 in a different course.
