Central Amsterdam hotels

    Staying in Amsterdam the first weekend in August and was wondering if anyone had any tips for a nice hotel.

    Looking to pay between 100 and 200 for the two nights (friday and saturday) and would prefer somewhere central.

    We have both been to Amsterdam before (seperately) but have never stayed in hotels.

    I can and have looked at various sites for reviews, but just wondered if anyone here had any suggestions.

    The Park Hotel is really nice. It is in the Leidseplein, close to the casino so it's pretty central! Advance booking deals for that website have a standard double at approx. €89 per night but you might do better if you trawl a few hotel booking sites.

    +1 on Leidsplein - it's central and happening enough without the seediness of central 'dam ... Also a worth considering are Rembrantplien or Muntplein.

    Places I've stayed and can recommend:
    Piet Hein - close to Vondelpark and Leidsplien... nice (but non-smoking if thats what your after)
    Hotel Jolly - excellent location by Munt Tower, a tiny bit shabby 4*
    Op de Gracht (B & B) - Very nice, overlooks canal near Rembrantplien. Excellent location .. *recommended for couples*
    Im not sure of the prices of these places... but www.bookings.nl is an excellent site.
