Report her. There are a minority out there who will say 'mind your own business' or call you a tout, but screw them - as far as I'm concerned, anyone who is fraudulently obtaining benefits is stealing money from the rest of us who work our butts off. Why should we fund their easy ride through life?

thanks,i feel terrible but if i hear anymore stories of shopping or holidays i think im gonna scream..the country is bad enough without people taking money they dont need just so they can sleep on in the morning.its not fair on the rest of us!

She's stealing directly from you (and all the rest of us); please report this thief. If you caught her taking money from your purse/wallet, there wouldn't even be a thread about it.

No, you should not report her. How do you know she is scamming??? Seriously, are you that jealous of her partner's wealth?
    Mind your own business.

Report her it is your business as a tax payer if she is legit then she has nothing to worry about.

Report it. Ads are all over the TV to report fraud. Apparently there's been a huge rise in cases. You can do it anonymously. What's that saying - all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men turn a blind eye? Obviously it's not evil or anything, but same principal.

not for you to report tbh.

if she was having an affair would you rat her out too?

too many people out there looking at others.

and as for the person who said " it's is his levies paying for her scam " - how does the 200 a week or whatever she is getting measure up to the 116k the likes of Ahern is getting.

/ heads to lunch to collect labour cheque :) ( joke by the way )

She's scamming the state, so it affects all of us. If she was having an affair, it wouldn't affect anyone but her husband.
The country's in a bad enough state as it is, dob her in!

You mention that Ahern is getting 116k. He wouldn't be getting that (or anything else for that matter) if any of his minions had had the balls to blow the whistle on his stealing.

Rat her out! ive a pain in my left one paying taxes and levees on top of that so people like that can skive off the system

Anyone who is scamming social welfare is scamming every law abiding tax paying citizen in the country- and taking scarce resources away from the people who need them most of all. I walk up Nassau Street, Dawson Street and Molesworth Street every morning. I see upwards of 20 people asleap in doorways who get no help or assistance whatsoever. Many of these are young people who have fallen on hardtimes and don't have a family or other support structure to help them out. Anyone who thinks they are drunks, druggies or worse- would be shocked to hear the truth from them. Even the Gardai show them sympathy and try to make sure they are brought to the attention of organisations who distribute sandwiches and hot drinks at night. These are the people she is taking accommodation and food from- and you and I are the people who are paying for it.

    Report her.

People who defraud the state by illegally claiming for benefits that there are not entitled to are not taking money from a abstract bottomless pit of money.
There are taking money from our tax revenues, which are finite and limited. I really don't understand how people can think this is okay, and none of our business.
I can't understand how people think welfare fraud is in any way acceptable? Money given to Fraudsters is taken from other budgets, be it legitimate welfare claimants, health, education, defense or wherever...
...."it's not as bad as big banks blah blah..." >> who gives a ****, it's still stealing.

Let it go and mind your own business. I know how annoying it is, I know several people doing the same thing and it does sicken me when I see how hard I and my parents work but she'll get her comeupance (not sure how to spell that?!?!) Sounds lik she needs a lot of immaterial things 2make her happy, be grateful you have a job!! What goes around comes around!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,085 ✭✭✭Xiney

And how is she going to get her comeuppance if nobody reports her for her to get it?

    I'd report her.

The Social Welfare Dept released figures last week showing the huge up surge in complaints....BUT

They also said that over 90% of the complaints investigated were not genuine...i.e. the Social Welfare recipient was genuine and there was no scam.

Sounds more like your friend has a huge mouth and should be more tactful.

I suppose i would ask how you know for a fact she is scamming? Rumour? Gossip? Or has she admitted it to you herself.

Report her. I am getting p1ssed off by some people that I know who are claiming benefit fraudulently. One guy is claiming disability benefit for a supposed chest problem but he still manages to sing with a band 4+ nights a week. Told me he is getting 150 to 200 euro per gig. He takes 5 to 6 holidays to Spain every year. Yet I work my ass off and pay for his holidays, when I don’t have the time or the money to jet off to Spain whenever I feel like it. The more you play by the systems rules, the more you get screwed.

In what way is she scaming? Just couse her partner is rich, and she lives in a bighouse does not mean she's not entitled to sign on. Is she working while claiming, or are you just pissed she's claiming when she does not need the money?

That last point was a good one - in what way is she scamming?
It is a difficult one - I think it's utterly wrong for people to be scamming and find it hard to believe they can justify it at present when the country is under so much pressure but I know I couldn't bring myself to report a friend even though it makes me want to kill them.
It's really frustrating - maybe try to talk some sense into this person then see what happens? More importantly - you need to get a grip on your emotions and try to not get so annoyed over it - easier said that done I know..

The way I understood it was the woman in question was bragging about scamming the system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭Munster_Gal

I say report her - I'm sick of signing casual slips for people who are supposed to be available for work but any time I ask them to work they say they can't!!!!! On the verge of reporting a few people myself at this stage!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭targus

If your sure she is scamming welfare, why not report her?We are all paying enough taxes and levies. After all its people like her that are needlessly contributing to an already overburdened welfare system..
The posts telling you to mind your own business are probably not contributing their fair share anyway...so go ahead and do your patriotic duty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Whether you report or not, perhaps you should ask yourself why you concern yourself so much with someone else's life. It seems odd.

And if you are so jealous why do you engage with this woman at all?

If I see someone tailgating or driving dangerously- I will pull in and report it at the next opportune time. Most people wont. Perhaps my actions might save serious injury to someone some day- who knows? If it comes to my attention that someone is scamming something (whatever that may be)- I report it also. Its the right thing to do. Perhaps one person scamming social welfare is a drop in the ocean- but when all those who are scamming are added up- there would be a sizeable amount of funds available to really make a difference to the people who need it the most.

why do people think im jealous?i can assure you im not,i just know its wrong and its bugging me she has so much of tax payers money to live the high life,i know she is doing it because she told me,she told the social welfare her husband left her when he didnt so she is recieving money for "loan parents" even though she is NOT one she has money coming in from her husband and pocket money for herself to sit at home or go shopping she brags about how great it is!!.she is not close to me at all shes a friend of a friend who i see when visiting my friend maybe once a month

In that case, you can either report her or not.

You've heard peoples' opinions - so what are you going to do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

Report her, if she's not scamming then she'll continue to get her money, and if she is then she wont. Problem sorted.
