    Hi,

My wife and I will be traveling to the US with our 9 month old next week. I have read about baby bottles and having to taste them at security, which is fine.

I called Aer Lingus about it today, and asked the guy about solid food. We were planning to bring some homemade hot food in a food flask, but he said that there have been incidents where passengers have not been allowed to take homemade food, only sealed jars.

Does anyone have any experience of this, or indeed any advice? This is our first long flight with the baby.

"Solid" foods should be OK, the problem is more with liquids and pastes. Security are instructed to be sensative to baby and medical needs. Mommy and daddy and baby have little to worry about. A half-dozen unshaven, sweating, young men with 25kg of baby food and no baby are another matter.

Arrive early and get to security early and it should be OK. I think bring some extra food anyway like small pieces of fruit (access to knives is limited) and rusks and the like. At least that way, baby won't starve.

What is the food flask made of?

    Thanks for the reply.

The food will be liquidized casserole type food. Hopefully will be ok. Will have the backup of the rusks and a couple of jars anyhow.

    Cheers

I would caution against it. I've heard of people having such food taken away/refused permission to be brought through.

In cases like this it's probably going to be less hassle to have sealed, identifiable jars.
