    Hi there,

Ive recently been made redundant and I've been given the option to buy my laptop from the company as there are alot of idle computers around the office at the moment. I'm waiting on them to give me a price.

I was looking for some advice on roughly how much I should pay for a 3 year old laptop. The spec is as follows:
    Dell precision M90, Intel(R) CPU T2500 @2.00Ghz, 2.00GB of RAM. Windows XP.

I dont want to get stung and pay over the top, i was thinking about €300-€400 myself but Im not sure.

    Any advice welcome,
    Cheers

Half that should do it. 3 years old is nearly past its sell by date.

Agree but I might go to 250 for the sake of having a machine you know the condition of.

BUT don't get caught by VAT, company might charge you VAT on any price you agree so make sure you check that out.

Its quite possible that the laptop is not worth anything to the company as it stands. Most companies will right off the cost of the notebook over a period of 3 years as a tax claim.

Cool, cheers for the replies. I don't think they are out to screw me but ill wait and see what price they come up with. At least I have some ball park figures now.

Also give a thought as to any software you have installed. MS office may not be licenced to you once you buy the laptop and if the value to you is in the use of the office apps you may need to add that into the value calculation (or take it off), on the other hand if its a Dell laptop that came from Dell with Office preinstalled and the CD, theres a bonus straight away. Obviously MS Office might not be the only software to take into account.
