I created a thread before involving not having a proof of address cas of living with my brother but this next thread is a follow on to that. I've decided to go back to college and i'm going to be doing a preparation course in sept in galway but because of having no proof of address iv'e not yet signed on. My question is if i was to move back home till then and sign on from there getting (i'm not sure how much, both my parents are retired) and coming close to starting my course my family said they'd help me get a place in Galway, getting to the question now lol will i be able to change my address from living at home to galway and collect the amount available including rent allowance. The course i'm doing is in the evenings but to get into the third level degree course as a mature student i'll have to do voulunteer work during the day.

thanks to anyone that can help or been in this situation before

you probably won't be able to sign on if you're doing volunteer work during the day.

If it's part time (3 days or less per day) you might be able to get part time JA/JB. But if it's more than that you won't be able to sign on.

All that information is hard to make out ;)

Of course you can change your address, but you will still need proof of your new address. You will need to transfer you claim to the local social welfare office. Also with rent allowance, you have to apply to your local cwo, you have to go to the one for the area you will live in.

Just open a bank account, get them to print off a statement and take it to the social welfare.

If you want to use your parents address then you wont be able to apply for rent allowance, also you would have to go back to where your parents live once a week to get your payment.
