Burning fat tips

    Any tips or further comments?

    I still have a lot of fat to burn off, been terrible over the last 2 years and put on ALOT of weight. I still have a good bit to burn off. My diet is ok, now I have to work on the exercise a bit more. In order to maximise the efficiency of my exercise I take it I should avoid a meal for at least 3 hours beforehand, in order to burn off fat, whatever the case. With the way I work I can go for a cycle before from early morning until lunchtime if needs be. My cycle on a down day is a 7 mile leisurely cycle, a 14 mile decent work out on the middle day and a 20 mile harder workout on the 3rd day with Sundays off. I'm also doing a little bit of football and light jogs (my knee and ankle are useless).

    Just wondering how I should place my eating around my exercise really. Should I avoid a breakfast completely or is a cup of tea + a cream cracker a good idea? Should I avoid eating for an hour or two after returning so my body can keep burning fat? I suppose there is a balance to be had, having enough energy to hand to do a decent workout and also eating so that your body can quickly turn to fat to burn off for energy. Just wondering where that balance lies.

    Diet: good quality whole fresh food. Not cream crackers. Ideally, you should have a quality protein, a healthy fat and a green vegetable in every sitdown meal. Eating lots of small meals is popular, but I'm not a fan of eating when you are not hungry. I think you'd be better listening to your body and only eating when it tells you you need food.

    Exercise. Work hard. That's the bottom line. When you are lifting weights, lift heavy ones. When you are doing your cardio, sweat and pant. Yes, any exercise is better than none, but the harder you work the better your results will be.

    Fasted cardio: works for some people, but your intensity may suffer. If a small breakfast lets you work harder then eat first.

    A small whey shake after lifting weights is a good idea, but you don't have to get religious about it.

    No need to be overthinking things here and you've got a couple of myths about fat burning going on there - you don't need to not eat breakfast or not eat for hours after exercising in order to burn fat. You need the energy to train, and you need to just eat well generally.

    If you have a lot of fat to lose, you just need to eat right! Then just exercise as often as you can. But diet really is what got you fat to begin with, so change that first and foremost.

    Clichéd as hell but you can't skip breakfast entirely. If your body thinks for one second you are starving yourself it will go into energy saving mode.

    Not true really. That's a big myth round these parts. You're talking about that happening over a period of time...at the same time skipping breakfast is never a good thing.
