    Hi,

If anyone has a definitive answer on this i would be very much appreciated.

Basically I am aware that there is an entitlement for some people who work part-time to get some extra dole money if it is justified after a means test. Me and my boyfriend have just moved into a house and i was wondering if i could claim anything as i only work part time, and if so how much? There is a lot of running around and document-getting to be done if i want to apply for this and i'd like to know whether its worth my while.

Im just finished college and work part-time, usually work 3 days a week earning around 350euro (which includes double pay on a Sunday), my boyfriend works full time and earns around 500euro a week and his earnings are taken into account for the means test aswell.

So does anybody know would i be entitled to claim dole on top of my earnings considering we are now renting a house which is costing us 950 a month

    Any input whatsoever is appreciated,
    Thanks

As you've just finished college, you may not be entitled to anything since (from what I've read on this board) you must demonstrate a loss of earnings over the past 13 weeks. In other words, you have to have had your hours reduced.

Other than that, if you are only eligible for jobseeker's allowance due to a lack of PRSI contributions, then the chances are you are over the income threshold. The threshold is around 650 euro per week for a couple, and you're well above it.

If you have enough stamps to claim jobseeker's benefit then you may get that on a part time basis. This is if the fact that you were in college doesn't affect things.

All in all, you won't know for sure until you go into the social welfare office and ask. You should also apply for a medical card/gp visit card and hopefully get at least the latter. If you don't have the DPS card you should get that too, especially if you aren't entitled to the medical card.

Your rent is only 26% of your current income. This isn't too bad. I'd look into reducing other costs if things are a stretch. Takeaways, bill pay phones, premium sky channels and relying on credit cards are huge money traps.
