    Hi,

I'm new to the golf section.

Anyone playing in the Jimmy Bruen qualifiers this weekend? I'm playing in Hollywood Lakes - practiced a few days ago, found the greens extremely difficult to read. Everything - and I mean everything - seemed to break towards the mountains. Nice course other than that. Not as long as I was expecting, but those greens are a nightmare!

I'm playing it too...what mountains are you talking about? Dublin/Wicklow?
Aren't most of the greens on the side a hill anyway?
But yes, greens are definitely tricky to read at first experience.

I was surprised too about the relative lack of length. There's not much advantage to using driver on a good few of the holes. Nice set-up, it'll be a good challenge on Sunday

Qualifiers were being played yesterday and Thursday on my home Course in Carrick on Suir. Mitchelstown and Thurles romped thru to the next round, apparently playing some seriously good golf. I think Mitchelstown may have been All Ireland Semi Finalists a year or two ago.

carrick beat mitchelstown this mornin 3-2. I was watchin a couple of groups and there was some quality golf with most holes halved in par. OK we might have had an advantage with the home game but still it was a very big scalp. Carrick will play the winners of cahir and slievenamon tomorrow.

Thats sweet, Robert Barry is a nice bloke, serious about winning. Christy Power drove past me today while the Clancy Brothers Festival was on, but didn't get to ask him how the got on. Hopefully they'll win tomorrow. That answers my question about any club competition tomorrow morning, will stay in bed.:)

Just back from caddying all weekend at Bruen. We (Woodstock) lost to East Clare in the final who now move on to the North Munster final against Nenagh who prevailed in Shannon over the weekend. Best of the weekend was one of our pairs who were 5 down with 6 to play against Ennis, and won on the 19th to win the overall match. Good craic overall and a lot of good golf.

Hollywood Lakes came through as leading qualifier on their home course yesterday. Not sure who came in 2nd but we (Lucan) finished 3rd and missed out.

have just joined a new course, playing of 9. I'm told that you have to have played in 4 home competitions to be eligible to play on inter club teams. anyone know what the rules are on eligibility!

You have to have 4 "Qualifying" competitions played in the previous year, that's all. If you have joined from another club you can play for your new club once you had the 4 rounds in. Qualifying rounds would be singles, no placing. (i.e Monthly medals, Captains Prize, etc....)

Yeah, East Clare prevailed after a tough weekend. Beat Lahinch in Prelim round 3v2 with last match being having been 3 down with 3 to play but clinching it on the 19th. Then beat Kilrush 4v1. On Sunday Dromoland were beaten, 3v2 with the last 2 matches been won on the 19th. Then the final against Woodstock was a tough battle with the 3rd point again being won at the 19th.

Watching the golf at Hollywood lakes last weekend. If you want to know anything about the greens try to contact the two boys who shot a two under par 70. The best round of golf I've ever seen.:

In Connaught is it home and away matchplay from round 1.
I only remember a central qualifying venue once - back in the 90s.
It's a great competition and always difficult for the 11 handicap.
When you are playing with a 6 handicap, nobody asks who is the 11. You are expected to play like a 6.

East Clare lost out to Nenagh in the North Munster final at Limerick Golf CLub last night. Nenagh won the 1st 3 matches at the 16th hole. Deserved winners having played some quality stuff. Think most of their matches were better that 5 over at that stage. Which off the back sticks & on lightening greens was great shooting.
