I'd say he must have known he was dying, and wanted to strike back at the Jews before he died.

The CEO of the company I work for was on the phone to me walking across the road from the museum when this happened. He was in DC druming up some business for us. He is a pretty hefty man and legged it fast when the sirens started blaring.

Not sure he would have had a choice (beyond whether to join the Navy or Marines etc). Also not sure he would always have held the views he did.

As someone (else) said - he was 'just another nut with a gun'. A dissafected muslim also recently shot 2 US soldiers outside a recruitment centre in the states (one died) so this is almost a daily occurence.

The fact that he's alive means he can be interrogated and imprisoned. He would have gotten off too easy if he had just died after taking the life of that guard. Who is in fact, as the papers have been saying, a hero, because from the items they confiscated they found a list of locations, all of which were to be supposedly part of some neo nazi killing spree on the same day.

Not another nut. This was planned. An expert who works on these White Supremacy cases notes that they largely operate in cells of 2-4 people, and it is very likely that at least 2-3 other people knew he was going to be carrying out this attack, or helped him plan it.

Na he didn't get through the detector he shot as soon as he came through the door. The guards were at the metal detector.

Considering this was an oap with a relic weapon who didnt even make it in the front door (though in fairness he did manage to find the building) - how is this one something more than a nut with a gun ?

I just dont buy it that this one was some kind of credible threat we should all be worried about (beyond the realm of 'nut + gun'). I can see no evidence of planning or organisation behind this (beyond some supposed scribbles he may have been carrying).

How is this case more organised than the dissaffected/nut-job muslim who shot 2 people at a recruitment centre ? I just dont see this as the tip of some terroristic iceberg, which, given the disparity in media coverage given to both events seems to be the implication.

You're allowed to believe it was an impulsive whackjob thing he decided to do after he left his ice cream out on the counter the night before and didnt have any ben and jerrys to snack on. But professionals that are actively working this case in DC are saying it was planned, most likely, by a supremacist organization. I tend to believe the professional working the case, not the irishman behind a keyboard, 3300+ miles away.

There is going to be an element of planning in pretty much all of these events. However delusional or unrealistic they are. You're allowed to believe what you like too. I don't believe this was anything more dangerous than the other nut from the other week. Probably even less so considering it was an OAP with a relic weapon. Anytime an israeli settler snaps and goes shooting are we to elevate those events to this kind of status too ?
