Regina Spektor is quite good. She had a song on I think it was a Vodafone ad last year.

Not sure if Nick Cave is one on your list...but a must see by any standards.
Not a whole lot of 'unknown' bands there.... but check out Tv on the radio, Friendly Fires, Glasvegas imo.

Lots of interesting bands there.....among the bland ****e.

Can't wait for Pendulum! Hardly dark horses though? I kinda like digitalism. Little boots could be good. Florence and the machine are the ones that have that song from the O2 add.

What happened to the whole mcd / oxegen ban may I ask?

Whatever you do-DON'T MISS NICK CAVE!!! A tad bit odd but bloomin' amazing! Went to his Dublin Castle gig last year and was blown away-but then I'm a big fan so am probably biased :D

Also, check out Nine Inch Nails.

    Enjoy!

they didn't put the IMRO new sounds stage on the poster, this is the lineup for that:

Friday 10th July: David Kitt, Heathers, The Joy Formidable, The Flaws, Yes Cadets, The Mighty Stef, Cashier No. 9, Ruth Anne Cunningham, The Brilliant Things, Home Star Runner, Stone Motion.

Saturday 11th July: Director, General Fiasco, St Vincent, Codes, And So I Watch You From Afar, Cap Pas Cap, Joe Echo, Nightbox, Angel Pier, Carosel, Jenna Toro

Sunday 12th July: Villagers, Wintersleep, Broken Records, Concerto For Constantine, Dark Room Notes, Blood Or Whiskey, The Chakras, The Jades, Andrew Hozier Byrne, Bone

People will probably have a lot of opinions on which of those to see but you can't miss Heathers, they're amazing. And So I Watch You From Afar and Villagers are also two to defo check out. I've heard good things about St Vincent too.

Out of the other stages, probably NIN, Mars Volta, Pendulum, Passion Pit, M83, Of Montreal, MSTRKRFT (though I hear the new album isn't as good as the great debut), Little Boots, God Is An Astronaut. I'd also check out Foals and Maximo Park.

About MCD, this is the thread I read: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055578947

The hotel song as far as i remember. Cracking number

The Gaslight Anthem (playing stage 2 on Saturday) are pretty class. Would recommend their album "The 59 Sound". They tend to tour with punk bands, but are more of a classic rock band. Here's one of my fave songs of theirs, judge for yourself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭unreggd

    Wallis Bird is class

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,049 ✭✭✭Driver 8

Nick Cave will melt your face :D

But he's clashing with Kings of Leon. I can't see why anyone would pick the latter over the former, but each to their own.

    Otherwise:

Regina Spektor (always fun live, and has some great songs)
The Gaslight Anthem (great show in the Academy in March, best of the current wave of Springsteen influenced bands)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs (should own the main stage Saturday)

As a general rule Oxegen don't do underrated gems, they mainly specialise in overrated sh*te, and this year is more or less no exception...only few "gems" I can see are Nick Cave, The Specials, and if that's Squeeze as in 'Cool for Cats' Squeeze, then them. There's also an annoyingly good dance line-up...but generally if you want underrated gems then go to Electric Picnic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Yep, it's the Cool For Cats/Up the Junction - Squeeze. Who should be amazing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Pendulum are absolutely fantastic live. 'Propane Nightmares' is an amazing tune.

Gaslight Anthem are worth a look, and I've heard decent reviews of Starsailor's latest offering.

Saw Foals at EP last year, enjoyed it immensly, even though beforehand I would have just thought of them as generic indie. I imagine Pendulum at Oxegen would have a disgustingly aggro atmosphere, with hammered scumbags laying into eachother everywhere...

Foals and Hadouken! were two of last years highlights for me. Can't wait to see foals again.

And I've already make my recommendations, so I do understand the concept, yes.

I reckon The Brilliant Things will do well, playing on the main stage at the start after the Artane Band

Have seen them around a few times and also been on the radio a god bit lately. Loving their new song "Rise"

I'd definitely go check out the gaslight album first thing on Saturday...

White Lies might also be worth checking out, that song Death is a great festival tune!

I'd probably pass out if I heard that Death song. Until my own dying day it will remind me of the worst parts of doing the Leaving Cert. It's a shame too because it's a really good song.

As for dark horses and hidden gems, I'd definitely recommend God is an Astronaut. I caught the end of their set last year. Unbelievable stuff.

The 2 bands I really wanna see are Mogwai and Fred, but they've only been mentioned once each. They are both fantastic!

I would absolutely love to be going on Sunday just to catch the Noisettes. Yes, they make chirpy and cheerful pop music but that doesn't mean it's less important. I'd recommend just letting yer hair down and dancing to this, folks! :D

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4dSEyaT6R8

Their second album is called 'Wild Young Hearts'. Great little tunes are Never Forget You, So Complicated, Don't Upset the Rhythm (Go Baby Go), Cheap Kicks. Undoubtedly you can hear Ms Winehouse on the posted tune. I've watched a few live clips on youtube too and I think they'll be a delight. Check the m out. Really wish I was but I have other obligations this Sunday :(:(
