Non-refundable ticket covered by travel insurance?

I have travel insurance that covers the cancellation of a trip due to illness etc.

The flights I have booked are non-refundable.

If I become ill, will the insurance company refund the price of the tickets that the airlines won't?

    Welcome to Boards.ie costaHavana !

Without seeing your actual policy it's difficult to be 100% sure but I believe that yes, the insurance covers you for illness no matter what type of tickets you have purchased with the airline.

    Brilliant, thanks.

I'm sure you don't have the time to look through this but I've taken the backpacker option with Blue and opted for cancellation and baggage/money to be included.

Cancellation is under section A on page 16 but I'm never sure about insurance - I always assume there's some small print hiding somewhere that I'll miss!

Looks like if you cancel due to illness and have a doctors cert which says that you can't travel then you'll just have to pay the Excess (€90) and it also mentions airport fees but I think you'll be ok.
