Influenza Vaccine - When?

I am 22 years old and I remember my late grandmother getting the Flu Vaccine sometime in the summer before the onset of winter. My question is: is there a special time to get the Flu Vaccine? I caught the flu 5 times between last November and January and spent about the guts of three months "not right". I gave weeks in bed and I think I was eventually cured when an Uncle of mine gave me a bottle of Potcheen (lol! but true) and after several doses of it, the flu seemed to receed.

I suffer from Asthma and am concerned that if Swine flu becomes a Pandemic in Ireland and I catch it that it might finish me. (I know their is no vaccine for Swine flu) but want to reduce my risks from normal flu.

I have decided to get the vaccine but am not sure when is the time to get it (or can it be got anytime?) Finally is covered by the Full Medical Card?

September /October is the best time and yes it is covered by the medical card.
Asthma is one of the indications but discuss it with your own GP next time you see him/her
