    Hi Folks,

My girlfriend and i are looking into some sun in maybe late august/september. We have been to the greek islands twice in the past. To Santorini and Skiathos. Skiathos being our preferred one. In fact we liked it so much that we are looking for a similar place with classs beaches and warm water. We decided not to go back there because we would like to see some place new, and try something else bar the greek islands.

Have any of you any ideas of a place where:

    Great beaches, secluded beaches

Travel around the whole island in a few days.

    Inexpensive to eat out......

    nice and hot

    all help appreciated!!!

I'm off to menorca in a few weeks and that's what i am hoping to find there.

In terms of seclusion, Skopelos is nice, you can only get there by boat from Skiathos. The beaches are stones rather than sand, but the water is lovely.

I'm dying to go to la gomera. You fly into tenerife and get the boat across. Looks lovely and secluded.

Hvar, Korcula, Brac, Rab, all in Croatia. No sandy beaches but amazing blue water on pebble beaches or rocky inlets, change island every couple of days, meet amazing people, eat fresh fish, drink cocktails all night and you'll have the time of your life. The beauty is you can just find accommodation when you arrive so you're free to stay as long as you like on your preferred islands. Hvar and Rab were the best I've been on.

    Thanks for your replies!

Sandy beaches are a must i`m afraid, the beaches on santorini were mostly stoney, but nice all the same. In skiathos they were fantastic! seeing as holidays are few and far between these days, there`s something about a nice sandy beach that completes a holiday.

I`ll look into menorca and the canary islands ad la gomera!!!!

i think it`ll be hard to match skiathos!

Try Cyprus! It has something for everyone along the south east coast. Ayia Napa, Limassol, Nissi, Protaras, Paphos.

That's a good shout actually, although i have found the better beaches to be fairly packed.

For seclusion, Pissouri is a nice quiet resort and the beach at curium is very nice and quiet. As it is offically on the British territory, it is effectively owned by the army, so there as no hotels or bars on it, just a few very good taverners (you used to be able to get very good sheftalia on the one at the far end).

The trick with Cyprus is to get away from the big towns (Paphos, Ayia Napa, Limassol etc) and head for the villages, that is why I would recommend Pissouri.

Cyprus is a beautiful place IF you know where to go. I totally agree with the last poster, you need to get away from the big towns. I am going over with a friend the first week of July to Ayia Napa. Was there last year and I'm going back again as the food was sublime, people very friendly, beaches were amazing and the night life was great. If your going to Ayia Napa, head up past Cape Greko which is a great spot to see a Med sunset at its best, and go to a small town called Protaras. Lovely place. There are loads of small quiet beaches that you can see as you head towards the town on the road.

I would really recommend Cyprus though :D
