What do I do?

    Hey all,

Long story short, I have just completed a degree in Social Science. Unfortunately however I didn't do well enough to be accepted for a masters in Social Work.

I put that disappointment behind me and few weeks ago I started to apply for jobs within Social Care. For me there was no point in giving up so I applied for administrator jobs within Social Care (because I have good experience in that field). I heard nothing from anyone until this morning.

I got a letter in the post this morning inviting me for an interview. I was delighted but then I saw the job title and my heart sunk. I was expecting administrator. It said for the position of Social Care Worker. This is something I have wanted to do for years, but I can't understand why they offered me an interview. I didn't lie on my CV, I said I merely had a degree in Social Science (not a masters in Social Work), and I did not falsely claim I had any voluntary experience either. So having seen my CV, I don't know why they would offer me an interview. It's obvious from looking at the job description that I am not qualified for the job but they still gave me an interview.

I want to go to the interview, I want to give it a shot because I know I will regret it if I don't, but I just can't shake the feeling that I am going to look totally out of my depth and I will probably be humiliated.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hi, I am a social care worker, you should be fine. If you have a degree in social science you are more or less qualified to be a social care worker. Big difference between social care worker and social worker.

Most social care workers either have the social care work course or social science. I did social science myself.

    You will be grand

    Go for it!
If you didn't lie on your CV then they obviously think you are capable for the position.
Best of luck with it ;)

Hi, thanks a million for that. When I saw the job description it kind of dented my confidence.

Do you mind telling what your job entails?

And thanks Munster Gal, the more I thought about it I realised they wouldn't have given me an interview if they didn't think I was qualified!

Thanks again to the both of you. :)

I am now a qualified sw but have a degree in Social Science, I worked summers as a social care worker with children and most of my friends got jobs between degree and masters as social care workers, you are more than qualified with a social science degree. Also just so you know you can apply for a Higher Diploma in Social Work if you don't qualify for the Masters so all's not lost!!!

Best of luck, walk in there and knock them out at your interview!!!
