There appears to be a lot of players recently getting cruciate knee ligament problems.

Is it the type of boots they wear ?

Here is a quote from Mark Davoren the other day in Croke Park.'My studs just planted and my leg stayed when my body went the other way. Until that it was a dream debut.

'There's some ligament damage, but hopefully it's not completely blown out. Hopefully, it's just a strain. I've never had any knee problems before, so it's worrying.'

Turns out it's his cruciate and he's out for the championship.

Should his happen? or is it a recently thing with blades etc.

Only recently there was a thread about blades and the grip they give. There is a link between blades and injuries as they give you too much grip compared to normal boots. Personally I think cruciate injuries come down to pure bad luck most of the time.

I feel sorry for Davoren, he was doing well and then to suffer this cruel blow. I know a number of people who have suffered cruciate ligament injuries and all except one were wearing normal studs when it happened to them. Out of interest one person did it twice, first time they were wearing blades, second time normal studs. I reckon its just the luck of the draw ( or lack of!)

could be the boots...could be the pitches....could be the fact that players are getting faster, turning faster and therefore increasing the chance of damage to ligaments!

in davoren's case he's proabably been training now for a year and a half solid! the milage and strain he has put on his joints is immense and may also have led to the injury! i tend to worry about intercounty players suffering from OA in later life! could become a real problem in years to come!
