ICE, ICE and more ICE for the first 48 hours - it is crucial.

When the swelling is reduced go to a physio and he/she will guide you further!!

See a doctor as soon as possible.

    In the mean time, HI-RICE.

Hydration, Ibuprofen, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

As always... you got injured because there's some dysfunction. RICE etc... address the dysfunction, don't just wait for the injury to heal without addressing the reason for the injury in the first place!

You might still depends on how bad your injury is. When I tore my hammy I was back running / sprinting within 2weeks but was with physio almost every day. There will be scar tissue surrounding the tear which the physio will work on.

Just go with the ice for now. Take it handy for a week or so too. If your not going to physio then you should try stretching your hamstring very lightly afer a week and build it up until the pain is gone. Then you should be able go for some light jogging...

    Hope it recovers quickly...

As previous posters have said ICE it! Apply a compression bandage and also rub Arnica gel onto it asap. There is also arnica masseage balm which I have found very helpful.

I know you say you can't afford a physio but you'll need someone to work it out for you or else you could be left with some troublesome scar tissue.

Depending on what grade tear it is you may make the cycle. A hamstring is one of the most painful things to injure so hopefully it isn;t as bad as you first think.

Just remember to ICE, ICE, ICE!!
