    If a person is elected as a Councillor he starts to refer to himself as

    *Cllr* John Smith

    what then is this MCC suffix I keep seeing on websites

    John Smith *MCC*

    Is that a subtle way of letting us know that the man is not merely a Councilor on say a *Town* Council, but rather he is definitely on a *Count* Council

    I think Cllr was less used previously for county councillors and was more a city councillor thing. I don't think there was snobbery in it.
