Torn calf muscle - recovery?

OK, tore my calf muscle last Thursday, pretty badly according to the doc. Still limping around on one crutch, can't put weight on it with my heel on the ground yet. Have done all the things the doc ordered, rest, ice, elevation, starting with gentle stretching now to try to get some blood flowing in it. Have to wait til Monday for physio as she's booked up.
Anyway, question for anyone who's had this injury before - whats the usual recovery time? How soon til I can start jogging again, and how soon after that til I'm back up to running, doing sprints, turning etc? Obviously I know it varies with the severity of the tear, but just looking for other people's experiences of dealing with this...

Mods - NOT looking for medical advice - already been and am following doctor's orders.

LOL, I knew I'd see this thread from you - How exactly did it happen? From what I've read before it can take 4 weeks for a calf pull and up to 6 weeks if its very bad.
Rest, Ice and Elevation will help to improve the time. How often are you doing this?

I'd imagine the walking/putting strain on it at any point in time will delay the recovery.
Has the swelling gone down on it yet?

I was told that to reduce swelling use ice. After that you want to get blood flowing faster to increase healing. For my reoccuring ankle injury (which is ligaments and tendons and not muscle) I go from hot to cold to hot to cold (water - as hot and as cold as I can bare). This get blood in their and aids repair.

From my physiotheripist she tells me to try gentle streching and perhaps the use of tension bands, kinda like rubber bands and push against them (gently - to strengthen the muscle) If you don't have these use an old rugby sock that has some give in it.

Finally messaging the muscle by a physio is great. This can be done at home also, but those physio's will really put you thru your paces. Message oils and some significant other.

(Not medical advice, everything I'm telling you has been told to me by a physio and a doctor and my injuries are different to yours. Ask your physio/doctor to be certain.

Next time, more streching and more warming up before hand. You will have be extra careful once you are back running/training again

From my last calf muscle tear which was from Gael Force last year it took me 5/6 physio sessions. It takes 4 weeks of rest and can take up to 6. During this the best thing was the physio part which was messaging the calf muscle. I didn't use cruches like you.
