    hello folks
its that time of year when ur battling with the mix of sun/cloud to follow the line of your ball thru the air
i was down at the range yesterday evening and was whacking the ball some distance with my driver
however - 9 times out of 10 i could not see it in the air
i dont really want to wear my david duvals (which have been deemed illegal by board members here) or use orange balls
    any suggestions?

its getting so frustrating that i'm contemplating just laying up everytime
that shows a lack of ambition tho in my book

Does it take long to come up with these posts conno?

Personally I think its more of a challenge if you cant see where your ball is? Makes you concentrate more on your swing. Thats why I love playing at night.

I employ spotters. I've got a team of 3 of them who do it for me. Used to be an expensive business, but with the recession and job cuts i'm saving a fortune. I've got a Pole and two Nigerian kids this year. One stands right rough, one left and the other is given a free role.

What it costs to run Team Graeme1982 is offset by my savings in golf balls.

Haven't lost one in 3 and a half years now.

Wasn't having a spotter the source of the 'Fore' shout, to warn the forward spotter to be alert. Or did I just make that up in a dream one drink sozzled night?

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

It isn't illegal to wear shades at the range.
On a golf course you won't play all your shots towards the sun (unless it's a par 3 and you want to stay there until you get a hole in one.

Try looking back at the tee, more than likely that's where you left it!

Titleist and SonyEricsson have released a beta version of a ball which contains a SIM card and operates in conjunction with your GPS device. This means that you can play into the sun without fear of losing track of your ball.

The location of your ball appears on the GPS device within seconds and, when searching in thick rough or trees, the ball can text you with messages such as "getting warmer...".

There's plans for 5 mega pixel camera version with Blutooth and MP3 player as optional extras but the R&A have yet to rule whether either version will be conforming and allowed in competition or not.

The days of laying up into the sun could soon be over!

I heard about that sounds like something else, I just purchased my golf gps and will be trying it out tonight...cant wait

This is the one for you Conno...will fit well with your Green 18 gear and your Duvals :D

The Indicator Night Flyer illuminating golf balls can be used on their own or in conjunction with standard golf balls. In low light levels this light up golf ball is useful for long drives leaving a 'trace' of light in the air after which the ball will flash to show its location - you may then either continue to use the Night Flyer or switch to a conventional ball.

Not sure about the switch to a conventional ball though ...

The bluetooth was a great add-on. They're gonna stick it in range balls and that way the balls can bluetooth one another to see where they are. Then they can all bunch up into a little pile and the ranger can come and pick them. Will save a fortune in costs for the driving ranges. I did here Carton House were having bother getting the yellow balls to speak to the white ones though... golf ball racism.

didn't craig johnson claim to have developed a boomerang golf ball at one point?
very useful at the range - one ball per bay and you could hit to ur hearts content for 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 mins

Conno, I think the link below will come in a little cheaper than the Titleist/SonyEricsson combo ball.

It is not quite as advanced, lacking GPS, Bluetooth etc.

But I feel this in combination with some of Graeme's spotters could be tha answer to all your problems.

And you could play at night when no one else is on the course;) Maybe negotiate reduced green fee's to offset the cost of the spotters.

Nike do a black ball. Unfortunately, I don't think it has the qualities of any of the premier balls.
If you're driving is erratic, maybe consider a driver with more loft, and a shorter overall length to give you a higher, straighter flight. I tend to pick an intermediate target about 4 feet in front of me. Hit down that line regardless of whether the sun is in my face. Usually a couple of yards left or right of my intended target.
Sorry can't be of any other help to you.

Maybe if none of the above work conno try this one out, If you substitute the paddle for your driver you could endlessly belt away at the range with just the one ball any would never be in fear of losing it.

I think he said he was on the range so you can breathe easy. Its probably still the 7 iron off the tee on the course.
