Weekend Break in Cork

    Hi Folks,
I was thinking of organising a weekend break in Cork with the Missus.

We'll be travelling from Dublin and only staying in Cork for two nights so somewhere not too remote would be good.

We'd also like somewhere recession friendly, a special offer or just good value.
Sometimes a good modern hostel is better than a B&B or Hotel but we'd stay in any of three as long as it's clean, well run and just a nice place to stay.

We don't need loads of activities as my wife is pregnant. Something picturesque would be excellant.
Either near the sea or a river would be great.

    Any tips?

    Thanks.

Low budget. Thinking of staying in a B&B near the city and taking a buzz out to Fota.

Is there any kick *ss hostels that are modern and well run? Sometimes you come across a gem. Don't mind where it would be located as we'll be driving down so we'll have car etc.

My sister stayed in the Imperial Hotel in Cork city and loved it. She went on the supervalue stamps and was I think €100 per person for 2 night with breakfast and one evening meal. She loved the hotel

Myself and the GF stayed in 'The Cork Hotel'(formerly Jury's Hotel) a few weekends ago and really enjoyed it. The hotel and the leisure centre were really nice. It's only about a five minute walk to Patrick street from the hotel which made it very central. The parking was free when I stayed there which was handy. We did not eat there as we eat in Cork city both nights (found a lovely Italian, can't remember the name of it).

Car park for Imperial Hotel is across the river - probably only 5 minutes walk, but best to plan dropping the pregnant missus and the luggage and parking the car yourself if you stay there.

Hostels in Cork aren't great from my experience they seem to be more of the large and university dorm type

the Best Western Ambassador Hotel has lovely views and is a bit away from the madness but you could walk down to town in 10 mins, quick check has rooms for €74 per night -

The Montenotte hotel in Cork also had lovely views and nice food when I was there ,but is a little bit further out. It had a swimming pool think offers are available for it
