Golf Categories????

    Can someone please explain to me the categories in golf. Is it based on your handicap i.e category 1 is the lowest handicappers than it rises in category 2, 3 and 4 etc? than I see in my local club that there’s a guy playing off 12.4 and he’s in category 1 when there are loads of guys playing of 12 in category 2, than in category 2 & 3 there are people playing of 16, should they not be in the same category...? It just seems a little confusing!

    Your club's system is clearly muddled up... it works like this...

    1 0.1 - 5.4
    2 5.5 - 12.4
    3 12.5 - 20.4
    4 20.5 - 28.4
    5 28.5 >
