Played Powerscourt West Course with my society recently. Some stunning holes on it and undoubtedly very picturesque but does anyone agree that they are the wackiest greens in Ireland to putt on? It's not just me having a bad day with the flat stick and looking for an excuse - a lot of our other members thought the same - but they seem to defy the laws of gravity at times! They're in great nick, just... weird.

Hi, i would say it's due to the pull of the sea . All golfers from that area say that the sea has an effect :;)

I played it about 2 years ago in a society. I played quite well - 40pts I think. I do remember the greens well though - very tricky. They seemed to be a darker shade than other greens (different grass?), so I thought they were slower but they are actually quite fast. Difficult to read line too.
Beautiful views up there though. Someone said it was 58K to join there.

I love that course. The greens are amazingly quick and tricky and if there's any wind it's very difficult to pick up anything on the greens, unless you're a very good putter.

They're doing a lease deal at the moment - €2400, but this is only for the remainder of the year, which is a stupid idea on their part. If they'd something similar to Carton where you only paid for what was left in the year, I'd have joined already. You can also pay for a 5 year lease, which is around 4k a year, but it's guaranteed for 5 years.

Its like the greens in Mount Wolsely in Carlow. Similar thing, you find the middle of the fairway with your drive, then you're punished when you get on the greens, due to the pathetic slopes on each green. Its demoralising.
Similar case of a green in Castlecomer in Kilkenny, but that was a design booboo, which will be dealt with in time. Green slopes back to front with a decline of about 20 degrees, I kid you not.

You have to remember that the greens are all 30-35 meters long, so it's not just a matter of hitting a green but which part, otherwise you're in 3 putt territory every time. Personally, I find the East a little easier(on the feet if nothing else:D), if not quite as scenic.
