Hope this is okay to make my own thread here,

I just wanted to discuss the Super Eights.

So Ireland will get a chance to play Pakistan again,

how do you reckon we will fair against them in this version of the game?,

could we cause an upset against possibly New Zealand and Pakistan?...

New Zealand cracked under pressure today, but that was against a team on top form. They supposedly have injury problems so its possible Ireland can turn them over. Whether they can beat Pakistan is dependant on which team turns up, they can be good or very very average. Sri Lanka aren't totally unbeatable either.

Would be a huge boost for them if they could win at least one game in the super8s.

Both New Zealand and Pakistan are possible wins. Wouldnt be banking on them, but its 20/20 and we have a shout

Do you think New Zealand will view Ireland as an easier win, and with the injury problem facing Daniel Vettori and Butler, could they be rested against us,

not saying they make the New Zealand team by themselves, but certainly it would makes things a bit easier for us?,

Ireland are 13/2 against India and 11/2 against New Zealand,

    not bad prices there...

In test match cricket the stronger team should win 95% of the time. In 50 Overs cricket this percentage drops to about 85%. In twenty 20 I think the figure drops to about 70%. When you go down to a five over game it is probably 51% because it is essentially the toss of a coin.

In twenty 20 one performance, usually with the bat, can change the result. A 50 off 20 balls late on or someone hitting twenty off an over can change the result of a game. One person comes off and you can win the game.

I think Ireland will win at least one of the their next for games. I have a good feeling about the Indian game, which unfortunately is essentially irrelevant.

New Zealand are very strong, Sri Lanka are just scary and then you have Pakistan.

Our best chance of a victory is a reduced overs game, but I think one win out of the next four games is definitely possible.

Im just hoping that they dont get an absolute drubbing in all their six games. Unlike the super 8s back in the world cup, we had bangladesh to look forward to, it was our world cup final, but now, we can only look upon the NZ and WI games as ones in which we can put it up to them.

Think the Windies will have to wait for another year. Fingers crossed the Kiwis are as flaky as they were against South Africa.

I wouldn't like to bet on Pakistan after yesterday.
We can expect a backlash after the WC.
That could either work for or against us. A bonus is they have been MUCK in the field. And yesterdays performance at Keeper was exaggerated by some truly silly down pitch movement by dutch batsmen. But their spin bowling looked Quite strong to me.

NZ, I feel could also be an opportunity, however they score runs.
McCullum will have to be gotten out early. They are also one of the best fielding sides in the tournament, so if they bat first and post a big total, it will be hard work chasing.
The plus is that bar a return of Vettori, their bowling is inconsistant, at worse inept.

Sri Lanka have 6 batsmen ranging from great to damn good. They also have 5 quality bowlers. 3 of whom (M is for Mendis, Malinga, Muralidaran and Mental-bowling-action) are unorthodox and hard to pick.
They are decent fielders. I really believe in Ireland, but Sri Lanka is a MASSIVE ask.

I think people are getting ahead of themselves here to be honest.

New Zealand are a quality outfit that spanked us in the 50 over world cup and should have turned over the form team in south africa id say its a very long shot to see us beat them.

Sri Lanka are just too good at batting and bowling. Murali is the spin king and Malinga is without a doubt the best death bowler in the world. This game is a 100/1 shot we aint gonna win it (hers hoping for a NR)

Pakistan are eminently beatable we could do them over again. All in all this has to be the one the boys target for a win.

I really hope Im wrong and we turn the lankans or kiwis over but I just cant see it

Well I'll agree we have the beating of Pakistan but in fairness I don't think our bowlers/fielders can handle the Kiwi batting line. Of course, if Scotland had managed that upset the other day I'd be 300 euro richer and we'd have one more associate teams in the 8...

You can throw a blanket over the T20's - Ireland are a chance everytime they take the field.

Chances of an upset in 20/20 are much bigger. Wondering what the profit or otherwise would be if you had put say twenty quid on the otside in each game so far. Would definitely be up after first round as Netherland were 9/1 to beat England and Ireland 5/2 to beat Bangaldesh so that would be a profit of €230 with only ten other games. Aussies were favs in both games so there's more profit.

Might try this for super 8s but obviously at this stage there is much less between the teams. Backing Ireland in each of their next four games would guarantee a profit for one win.

The Dutch actually went out to 10-1 in Boyles. Yippee!!!

I had Scotland @ 7s, Windies @ 2s as well. So close with Scotland.

I'll find a tenner I'm sure to put on Ireland 2moro against Inja.

Someone who bowls at the death - i.e. end of the innings: last over or two in a twenty20, maybe last 4 in a 50 over match.

New Zealand are really struggling with injuries, Franklin, Taylor and Vettori are all doubts with franklin the most likely of those to be fit. Ryder has been ruled out aswell. We do have a chance but it won't be easy even with the kiwis missing these players

Don't you just love the irony of Cremated asking what is a death bowler?

Ireland doing well today so far.
Only Jayawardener kept the SL innings respectable, 132 for 7 as I type, I smell an upset if our batting can come together.
