Any Panasonic G10 or G10B (Freesat) owners got DTT to work?

This has been asked in the other thread, but in the hope of getting a quicker response, has any who purchased a Panasonic G10B (i.e. the UK Freesat model) been able to tune in the 4 terrestrial channels on DTT?

Similarly, has anyone who purchase the Irish version (minus Freesat) been able to tune in the 4 terrestrial channels on DTT?

Ive been asking this question round here as well.

I have the g10B but genuinely dont know how to physically get the "four" channels. Someone will have to explain it word for word for me. Im a bit slowwwwwwwwwwwwww :o

I have the freesat up and running perfect. Was wondering can i run the freesat and the Irish DTT at the same time. ie are the run off different connections.

Maybe WATTY can answer this he seem s to be pretty informative around here :)

Afaik, you could run the DTT and freesat at the same time. The freesat comes in via SATELLITE connector. The DTT would come in via just the ordinary RF connector. If you did get both working, you would have to continually switch inputs, between them. That may not be be a big issue on some sets but it is a right pain on others

If you're in Dublin, yayamark, or near any of the main transmitters, you'd be able to get DTT with rabbits ears, probably. If not you might need a roof top UHF aerial. Whatever you'd be using, just plug them into the RF slot, go the analogue source(Thats could be just "TV" or something. Whatever its called, it should just be fuzzy when you select it) Just command an automatic digital search and, presumably you'll get an analogue signal. Search through the channels its found, and you shouldnt have any trouble finding out if you've got DTT. The PQ would be prefect.

Really hope the UK model is able to get DTT. If it does, it really is the best TV for around its price in terms of PQ, and in its ability to get free channels!

If you can get the DTT channels, you can run them at the same time and just switch between them and satellite channels using the TV button on the remote

You will likely need a UHF antennae that is set to receive the DTT test transmissions - ie, pointing the right way.

I have tried a scan but got nothing. In Limerick where would be the best for Rabbits ears for the telly.

What aerial do you currently use for analogue TV3 or TG4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭ratsam

Cant be of any help yet as I havent picked up my G10 50inch :D but I do have a similar question. I am buying from Watters Electrical in Crossmaglen and its the UK version (but with the 5 year warranty). It has Freesat but obviously not the Mpeg 4 tuner. I seen cards on Ebay that enable Mpeg 4 tuning on compatible TV's via a CAM port :

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/Irish-DTT-MPEG4-to-MPEG2-Viaccess-CAM_W0QQitemZ260413961049QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioElectronicsVideo_Video_TelevisionSetTopBoxes?hash=item3ca1e1b359&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1301%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Do any of yee know if this would work with the g10...?? Not really that bothered if it wouldnt work as I'm getting Sky HD next week anyway but just interested.

    Rats

There's no such thing as an MPEG4 tuner - the tuner is DVB-T. The video decompression chip in the all the Freesat Panasonics (PZ81 and G10B) is MPEG4 compatible as otherwise they couldn't display the HD satellite channels.

The problem with the older Freesat Panasonics was not that they couldn't display MPEG4 channels on Irish DTT, but a flaw in the firmware means they can't scan them to begin with. If you upload the channel settings by USB key, they work fine.

I'd say your G10B will probably scan them, as its firmware is likely to be similar to the G10L and is therefore fully DVB compliant. Do not buy the MPEG4 cam until you have fully tested the TV first.

Yes, the same one as on page 10 of the manual which they show connected to an aerial.

    Cheers

I put what i think is the aerial into that slot and

    Nadda

I defo have aerial in the attic and im sure that that cable is an aerial.

    Dunno what to do now.

All of the Panasonics are able to correctly scan the radio channels on DTT. If your TV didn't find those, then it means that the aerial is either disconnected or unsuitable.

Although a pm from another member of boards suggests that the G10Bs have the same flaw as the PZ81B - can scan radio but not TV. However, it would be nice to get confirmation either way.

    Just bumping this up ..

Currently have a 37 PZ81 with the known problem scanning for Irish DTT channels ..

I am looking into a new purchase and would like confirmation whether or not the newer G10B TVs can scan correctly for Irish DTT ..

    Anyone ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭big_moe

i've only tested the V10B (which i can only assume are the same as the G10Bs) and they will NOT receive the irish dtt service. and it wasnt a reception issue because i had an irish X10L beside it picking up the channels fine

That really is a shame. Looks like the only option now for a TV with freesat and DTT is the LG LF7700 series

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭big_moe

i'd rather have a better quality tv (panasonic) and then buy an extra decoder. either get the freesat model and a DTT decoder or the DTT model and a freesat decoder, which ever works out cheaper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,372 ✭✭✭silverside

    That is unfortunate.

Is there a variant on the G10 series (perhaps the g10L ? ) that supports Irish DTT and Freesat ?

Is it likely that it is a teething problem because of the DTT trials and that it may work when the service goes live?

I'm thinking about getting a new TV and integrated freesat and Irish DTT would be very nice, to avoid faff when channel-hopping.

No, for a start, the G10L definitely doesnt have a freesat tuner

Who knows regarding if it is only teething. No one now knows when DTT will launch here. Some say 2010, others even further!

At the moment, it looks like your only option is the LG LF7700 series, available in 32", 37", 42" and 47".It does have a mpeg4 decoder and a freesat tuner. No where near as good a telly as the G10 though. Personally though, i'd get a mpeg4 capable tv and then get the Humax HDR freesat recorder.

It's not a teething problem with DTT - the fault lies entirely with Panasonic because their firmware is not compliant with the DVB standards. They currently show no intention of fixing the firmware, so caveat emptor. I had every intention of getting a G10B myself, but not a chance now.

on the G10B, Has anyone tried manually uploading the frequencies for the Irish DTT stations via USB key (as worked with the PZ81?)

how is this done? i should get my hands on a G10B next week and i can try it

Hi has anyone noticed that the G10 being sold for the irish market has no Cat5 ports whereas the G10B for uk market has. In a tv of this price i think its important to futureproof for hopefully when we can avail of this facility on TV's. Is this another case of Irish TV's bewing dumbed down spec wise for the irish market while they still charge the equivalent of the UK price or more but with a lower specificatioin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭big_moe

yeah the cat5 is only for freesat though, if they launch iPlayer etc over their service. i have a G10B here now and a G10L so if anybody knows this USB way of getting the Irish DTT on the PZ81 then let me know and i'll try it.

All the details are on this page, particularly the last post #120.

As you give your location as Lucan, then the attached file should be OK for 3 Rock - however that is for the LZ model which I think is LCD.

You might have a better chance with the PZ81 model data file which is attached to this post:

no joy unfortunately. it says "Model ID incorrect - Error"

i tried to open and edit the Model_ID file but its all encrypted or something

    Ÿ(È_ׂ'¼Cê®Aßu£:Ñhÿ—iÉ7

thats the info from the model_ID, now how do ya get PZ81 from that?! im currently trying it on a V10B

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,855 ✭✭✭Apogee

You can't change the Model_ID, only the Owner_ID and it's better if that is left to the factory default.

If the TV won't upload the file data, there's nothing you can do about it. Do not attempt to edit the data file as you potentially risk bricking the TV.

Try retuning your panasonics now !!

It seems that RTE have changed the service type parameter now and the Z81 tvs are now scanning the channels correctly ...

Ah when will they stop messing about with these tests and just get on with the launch!!

It's in the previous links I gave you:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=60202689&postcount=118

    Steps 1 to 3:
    1. Format an SD card on a PC.

Insert SD card into PC. Right-click on SD card in MyComputer, then select FORMAT and press OK.

    2. Set up hotel.pwd file on SD card.

Open MyComputer and double click on SD card (Removeable Disk). Go to Tools, Folder Options and select the VIEW tab. Then unclick the "Hide extensions for known file types" option and apply the change. Right click and select New and Text Document to create an empty text file. Name it "hotel.pwd" ( Note that there is no .txt file extension added because of option selected above). Remove SD card.

    3. Copy all channels from TV1 to SD card.

Turn on TV. Insert SD card. The process starts automatically. Enter the code 4850 when requested. The copy is made to the SD card. Remove the SD card.

    4. Copy channels from SD card to TV2.

Turn on TV. Insert SD card. The process starts automatically. Enter the code 4851 when requested. The copy is made to the TV.
Turn off the TV and then turn it on again. The channels are copied! There's no EPG info for the TV channels.

Yep, they're messing about with the transmissions, I'm after checking mine again and there are no TV stations coming in from Three Rock And Kippure, just the radio stations so they're after changing the service type again. Pity that for anyone who has a freesat Panasonic and did'nt get tuning in the full mux.

Hopefully a few people got to save the channel data at least ...

If you got your channel data saved Moe, let me know as I was thinking of getting 1 of the newer Panasonics but only if I can get free to air ...

    hi everyone
i have also a v10 plasma and i am interested in this thread.
i was wanting to save my channel lists and i have used the file "hotel.pwd" to do so,but i was wondering if it is possible to edit this file.
i use the tv for "other sats" as well but its a pain to sort every channel that the channel scan gives..ie there are loads of non viewing channels out there that the scan picks up .
i was wondering if after a channel scan and then save to sd card ,could then this database file be edited on the pc somehow to quickly sort before loadinf back onto the tv again?

if anyone knows if this can be done and if so how or what database software did you use ,please let us know?

    many thanks

I turned on the Panasonic G10 this evening, selected DTV,message popped up,"found new channels",press ok to tune now.The new channels included RT1,RTE2,TV3 & TG4,around 800-803 on the channel numbers.I had them on DTV before now on an LG,but first time on the G10. :)
