after they built on them and turned them into football pitches there not the best. . ah no theres one court still there i think. All public courts are free unless there is charge for floodlights (which they dont have) but word of advice go to Albert College Tennis courts they have 3 outdoor floodlight courts all new and 6 indoor courts(think you have to pay about 5 euro for indoor and book them through tennis ireland.)

    Hiya,

I had someone call to my door recently looking for my vote and I asked him why the courts were taken away and changed into a hooligan congragating football pitch. He said there was no-one using the courts (naturally because of the state of them) and now only the "lorcan ladies" (whoever?) are using them. He said St Kevin's (i think) want to use them also.

I live near these courts and wouldn't mind using them if there was someone local interested in playing ?

    Hey,
I live not too far from Ellenfield (Whitehall) and Albert College parks and I'd definitely be interested in playing tennis. I should say I'm a beginner and I'm just looking for a bit of exercise.
Let me know if you're interested.

I would also be interested in a game as i live close by. Didnt know they went to rack and ruin by the sounds of things so i might do a drive by and check them out first but changing into a soccer pitch doesnt sound good. I used play there every saturday a good few years back and there was a small nominal charge. I believe the locals made it happen with the tennis courts and got a state grant to build them and it had an affiliated team so things must have went south in recent years.
I just beat my brother 6-2 6-2 this evening in Swords manor(€3 per head) so this is what you are up against lads, last week it was 6-2 6-0 so maybe im regressing!. Self learned seasonal beginner/intermediate baseliner at best. Im all at sea when i approach the net though and very vunerable to missing the big smast badly!. Although im not adverse to the old fist pump and 'come on' holler when i send a rare passing shot down the line!.

Hi, I was passing through the park last evening and noticed a group setting up in the 3 courts. I asked what the deal was about getting a game. The gent informed me that it was the Lorcan Residents club and that unfortunately they weren't accepting any new members :o. I used to play on those courts every day during my school summer holidays, (even if it was donkey's years ago), and would love to take it up again for the crack. But it looks like it may be members only. It's a shame that the corpo don't man the pavillion like they used to and make it accessible to the public.

Thanks for the update pete66. There are other courts down near Artane Castle. There is a club going on there but as far as I remember as its in a public park they have to keep 2/3 courts for public use. Anybody know any more about this ? (Club is called Brookfield I think)

Yeah the courts in Artane beside St. David's School is called Rockfield TC and its Dublin Corp owned but Rockfield TC are affiliated to it so it seems like a joint run thing. They have 2 astro courts in front of the pavillion and 3/4 black tarmac ones behine these two all floodlit(€2 for floodlights). Public can play on the astro courts as long as they arent booked by club members however the astro courts seem nearly always occupied or booked by club members. That said we played on the astro last time, the lady in the pavillion just tipped us off it was booked for 8 and we could move to the tarmac courts at 8 when that happens.
Public are welcome €6 per court or €3 each(no real time limit once your on you wont be charged for more than the hour). Club nites seem to be Mon&Wed and they close early friday evening. I think they only occupy the astro courts for club nites so your likely to get a black tarmac court on Mon&Wed.
Ive played 'Alan_77' from this thread a couple of times recently in Rockfield, id be on for a game this week if you want to pm me to arrange a day time?.

    Aidan
