I'd like to be prepared heading in...should I expect to be standing at a photocopier/filing cabinet all day or will I get to do any real work??!any info appreciated, cheers

Hi, I did a summer internship with one of the big 4 in london. I was in the tax department and got loads of experience. Obviously, its much different to what you do in college so they won't expect you to know much.

My first few days were spent getting id, equipment, induction training, computer based training and getting to know everyone (it was a very big department). After that I started doing basic work and there is always someone to help out. I was given manuals and stuff to help me aswell but there was no pressure as they know you are there to learn.

I was a little nervous going in my first day as I didn't know what they would expect of me but it was a great experience. Everyone was very friendly and didn't mind when I asked to sit with them so I'd pick up more.

Don't worry about it cause they will have other interns aswell in the same situation. I didn't have to do any tea-making or photocopying....there was a tea machine and they used a paperless system where everything was scanned :D. I did help out getting training manuals printed and binded but other than that it was all tax returns.
