What do ye all work at?

Hi all, as I sit here in work, spending hours on the A/R/T forum again I just got to thinking how lucky I am to have a job that allows me the time to discuss running on boards and the time to fit in runs whenever possible at home.
Then I got wondering what does everyone else on here work at? How do ye find the time to fit in all the training and all the time spend discussing it here on boards? Hope its not too personal a question

Im a teacher in a second chance education facility. My job spec requires me to teach for 4 hours a day and to do various admin duties for the other 3. Thats where I get the opportunity to log on here. I have recently been put back to a 2 day week so I now have lots of time to fit in my training.

Anyone else willing to share what they do?

Im the Facilities Officer at Croke Park. Can be a headwreck this time of year as i have many late nights and weekend work ahead.

Training before work is most important these days as i am wrecked by the time i get home. Have a lovely 15km run this morning and hope to have many more as long as the weather stays decent!

Don't currently have anyone willing to pay me money at the moment either. But I'll be spending the next few months skiing everyday* with the very slight possibility of then getting paid to ski next year if "real" jobs still aren't available come October. I used to be a CAD engineer/ IT support type person though so hoping for something along those lines to come along again eventually.

    * I may have mentioned that previously. :D

Both myself and my partner are unemployed - she was only made redundant a few weeks ago whilst I was let go mid-December last year. Difficult times... :(

It is very easy to become overwhelmed when you hear of smart, well-qualified, hard working people struggling to find work.

However, I think that sport is a fantastic stress reliever and helps you to stay positive and focused. This forum is such a great resource to get help and advice and meet some lovely people.

Having recently attended a funeral of a still born baby and seen the tragedy, the cruelty and the sadness of such an event, it puts things in perspective. I know that people trot out the "your health is your wealth" motto a lot and it can be hard not to become frustrated with what seems a rather glib statement when you're struggling to fine work but it's very true.

Systems Analyst for an American Financial Services company. Letting people go left right and centre in Ireland so hope to move to the States with this job in November.

Girlfriend has been unemployed for last few months though so count myself lucky to have something in these difficult times.

Unemployed as well these days. Packed in my job in order to retrain as a primary teacher. The extra time for training is a nice perk....

Unemployed IT manager/program manager. Two years ago (when everything looked rosy) I took a decision to make myself redundant. Back then it was considered a form of career development. Collected my redundancy package the day that Ireland Inc. formally announced we were in recession.

Running is great. It fills a void with healthy activity and keeps you positive. (except when you're injured. :o). For a while I've been toying with the idea of setting up a running / fitness club for unemployed people. Get back to fitness kind of thing. Give people back a sense of purpose and self-esteem. Who's with me? :)

One of the lucky (:o) ones who has a pensionable job for life with a Government Department.
Do genuinely feel fortunate in these draconian times. Wife still in gainful employment too, so we are certainly counting our lucky stars.

On top of that I'm trying to finish off a degree in the evenings but I'm on holidays from collage now :D...lol

I apologise for my earlier comment, it was very negative, hardy eustace is of course right. It's just that we all know about the current state of the Irish economy and what seems to be an uncontrollable rising of unemployment figures. It still came as a shock to me to see a microcosm of the economy right here on this thread.

I have a job and I count myself extremely lucky, now even more so.

I'm doing marketing & pr in a not for profit, luckily for me things are still ticking over. It is a steady 9-5pm job so apart from my blunder over the last few months being ill I would usually run in the evenings straight after work.

Electronics engineer / manager with small/medium manufacturing operation, struggling to stay competitive. 10-12 hr days normal round here, doing well to fit in 3 training days a week and check out boards etc, over a cup of coffee or lunch.

Manage sales operations for a large multi-national, my days could be numbered, but I just focus on what I can control.
I'm lucky that i'm flexible, I tend to start early 7:30 and try and leave before 5, so when I'm home, I'm home (I hear ya Baza) and work from home a couple of days per week, planned against my easy or day off, so when I'm done, I'm done and that keeps the family happy.

Student/ working nights with online gambling agency so very little time to train so sacrificing couple hours sleep a night only logical way to fit in the running haha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,311 ✭✭✭xebec

Work on a public service engagement for a large multinational professional services company. My role at the moment isn't too busy so can usually find a few minutes on the sly for Boards during the day, train in the evening when I get home...

Although my days could be numbered too - I'll know by the end of the month - but gotta try to keep positive and running is one of the things that helps...

Self employed consultant. Bit of programming, bit of database development, bit of technical training, bit of facilitation & soft-skills... Bit of whatever people will pay me to do really!

Which leads on to teh next point...

Lots and lots of people here with great skills, contacts and time on thier hands. There must be something that could be made and marketed? We won't be in recession forever...
