    Hey guys,
Looking at the new Macbook lineup I really wnat the 13-inch Macbook Pro.

But seeing as Apple don't know how to convert properly, I wanted to buy it at the SU price,as it works out to be around 860euro, instead of the Irish price of 1149euro.

Is there any way to get it from the US and then have it shipped over?

    Cheers

The US store will only deliver to a US billing address. The only way really would be to have a family member/friend buy you one and ship it over at additional expense, but that + a likely customs charge would mostly end up negating any savings... Easiest option would be to pick one up if you happen to be in the US or have any friends/family coming over from there...

You should also note that US store prices do not include sales tax, which differs from state to state...

Savings can still probably be made by buying up the North. Or, if you were up for a longer trip, there's a Tax Free Dixons in Stansted Airport that sells Macs at even cheaper prices than the UK street price. Ryanair do €5 flights there from time to time. Keep an eye out!

Don't forget the US price doesn't include TAX

at current rates you would save about a €100 on the entry line MBP buying it up the North

Thats €100 more than I had before

Passing through the US on the way home lads, wondering should I keep an eye out for a refurbished one on the way through or spalsh out on a new one?? What's the deal with claiming the tax back in the airport???

They don't offer refurbs in store, only online as far as i know. As for claiming taxback, i think there's a way of doing it at the airport but i'm not too familiar with it, just got my tax cheque from working over there last summer....might put it towards an iphone!

If you happen to be in one of these states in the US you're lucky - they don't have sales tax:

Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon

    Hi

I got my new macbook (13.1in) just before new years in delaware all in for 800 euro including a case. So if someone is in the US then its a must particularly if you are near a tax free state.

Now just have to figure out how to bring back a 24in imac hmm

Take off the stand, glue a keyboard to the base and tell customs it's a new laptop :D.

if you claim the tax back (5%) then you are listed as having down so, thus Irish customs are aware and then slap you 21% or more to get it into country

They may pick up that it is a new computer anyway and thus charge you in any case

One option is to back up another laptop on an iPod
Use that to create files on the new computer and then when customs open it and turn on it will look like you have been using it for a while

Have never done this, never tried this but .......

I was just pointing out the savings if you happened to be up the North.

Sales tax in the US currently ranges from 0% (Delaware) to 7.25% (California)

Your idea seems a bit OTT, you could just bring a laptop bag (or buy one) and then stroll through customs with the laptop on your shoulder.

Disclaimer: I do not condone the avoidance of customs tax. :D

My last MBP came from 5th Ave store in NY. Just dumped the box and walk straight through customs. If they stopped everyone with a laptop bag they'd be there forever.

Saved 650 euro at the time.
