    Evening folks,

My brother has a '99 corolla 1.3 Irish car, that will only start sometimes when the key is put in the ignition. This has gradually gotten worse over the last few weeks. Any ideas about a fault like this and where to start looking ?

Cheers for the help in anticipation

obvious enough , but have you tried jumping the battery? is the radio, lights coming on?

Next time it won't start try jump leads - it could be the battery.

im no expert, but it sounds like it might need a new battery

Cheers lads - but I think the battery is fine - if you leave it for a few minutes and go back to it, it could just as easily start - it appears to be an intermittent problem, that is getting worse - if the battery was the problem, would it not happen all the time ?

    Thanks again

Sounds like the solenoid on yer starter is at fault.

You could take the starter off yourself and take it to an auto-elec if you think you are up to it.

tap the starter with a hammer next time it happens and try it again...
