Sky TV phone connection on UPC/Chorus

I currently have Sky+ and it is connected to eircom phone line by RJ11 connectors. I am finally dumping eircom to go with UPC for broadband and phone but I am keeping my beloved Sky+.

What I need to know is: Where does the phone line to the sky box connect to. Is it a connection to the router by RJ11. I am aware that UPC phone is an IP service so how is the sky box connection done.

Before anyone says you do not need it, my Sky+ box will not find channels when it is turned off and on with no phone cable attached.

    Thanks

Chorus will provide you with a Router which has a telephone socket on the back of it, you can either connect this directly to the sky box or connect it to the exsisting phonesocket in the hallway etc and feed the house from there including the skybox..

Dunno why ur skybox wont find channels without the phoneline as its only required for the interactive features and skycallbacks etc..after 12 month period it no longer is required..and if it was me I wouldnt connect it to a phoneline period...

Your sky box will find channels perfectly fine with no phoneline connected. It will prompt you, upon turning the box on for the first time after plugging it in, to connect your phoneline to ensure you get the most out of the sky digital service (or some marketing talk to that effect). Just hit back up and this message will disappear - the box will then display "Searching for listings" as normal (takes up to 2 mins) and will then dump you out to channel 998 where you just change channel as normal.

BTW. As mentioned, the chorus ntl service is provided via an RJ-11 phone socket on the back of your cable modem (you may need a new cable modem, which they will supply). You then just run a lead between the cable modem and your nearest phone socket on your extension, as if it was just a plain phone (DISCONNECT YOUR EIRCOM LINE FROM THE EXTENSION FIRST!!!). Your extension NOW runs off the chorus ntl provided phoneline so all phones will ring on your new line - no need to unplug phones/digiboxes/fax machines etc. The backend is IP based alright, but is administered by chorus ntl themselves - it does not effect you whatsoever, bar disconnecting your eircom line and connecting the cablemodem to the extension.

    Hope this helps :)
