What would be recommended before the above sport? I've tried sports drinks before (Powerade namely) but haven't found them to be of any use. Would prefer to eat something to be honest. When and what should I eat to give me that extra boost? Thanks.

Complex carbs such as brown rice, pasta or potatoes (with some meat for protein as well of course) about an hour and a half prior to the start of your training should do the trick.

+1 on this. If you don't have something you'll struggle in training and just won't get as much out of it I think. The more you have the longer before training it should be. If i'm stuck for time because of work or whatever i'll have porridge with a banana and try to have it finished at least an hour before training.

There's some decent info on the GPA (Gaelic Players) website on general nutrition, what you should be eating for training and coming up to big games etc. I'd imagine it's very relevant to what you're doing.

depends how long before kickboxing. if it's an hour or less then i usually have an apple.

if i have more time I have chicken, veg and apple.

complex carbs don't do it for me - not like a trusty granny smith but could be just me. they (complex carbs) tend to just sit in the gut and make me feel heavy.

I find anything less than 2 hours affects my training (muay thai) negatively. I'll generally have museli 2-3 hours before training and a banana or apple in the hour beforehand (or if not, then a carb-y drink before and during). It's taken quite a bit of experimentation / pain to get to that point. It's gonna differ by person, but I'd suggest giving that a try and see how you get on.
